10 months, but I work outside the home, so I was pumping
during the day. Don't know if that affected the timing or not.

DD is 15 months old and there's no sign of it yet. She still nurses twice
during the night though which I figure is the reason. Hopefully once her
molars finish coming through (3rd one appeared today) that might stop.

4 Months. DD was sleeping through the night by then, so I figure that's why
it was so early.

Maybe. Maybe not. DS was still nursing several times a night when my AF came
back at 9 months. DD is coming up on 6 months, and often only nurses once at
night. It will be interesting to see when AF comes this time. Here's hoping
for 12+ months . . .

I'm sorry to piggyback on this poll but I'm also 10 months PP and
still no AF. Prior to pregnancy I had long cycles, 40-50 days (after
being on the pill for 10 years) and I'm wondering if anyone can
comment on whether this would cause AF to be slow to return and/or if
AF will return to the same long cycle pattern. Any similar
experiences out there? (I'm nursing a lot at night and pumping 2x per
day)
Thank you!! HW

AF = Aunt Flo (your monthly visit from Aunt Flo). Yes, it means your period.

I had long cycles too. I don't think there is a correlate with cycle
length and return of fertility.

FWIW, my cycles are now 28 days. Sometimes as many as 32,
but I haven't had any 40-50 day cycles. I'm also well below
my prepregnancy weight, so I don't know if that had an effect
or not.

I got mine at 4 months PP. I didn't get it in my 5th month. In 6th
month I had very less flow for 7 days. (I usually get very heavy flow
for 3 days and stop. This was kinda opposite). I nurse dd (7 months)
only at night and pump 4-5 times during the day.

Hehe - I think AF is a particularly American expression. I'm a Brit and
was really confused the first time I heard it because I actually had an
Aunt Flo :)

I am an American and had actually never heard the term "AF" until I started

We're Aussies from Britain and I had an Aunt Flo too, who I love and miss
dearly. The term brings a smile to my face, I'm sure she'd not mind a bit
: ) Florence is also my MIL's name, but she's not a Flo.

Here's a question for you? Robust estrogen levels or other hormones
(progesterone, prolactin?) out of whack? I'm wondering because I've had two
miscarriages since Matthew, never had copious amounts of milk, although
enough for him, stopped leaking VERY early, never sprayed milk, never felt a
letdown. Could this all be related somehow?

5m3w. Sigh. I'm only now getting through with it. DS turns 6 months
tomorrow. He's still 100% bf, too, but he sleeps through the night.

I also had a "warning shot" AF a month ago -- cramps, very light flow.

3 months postpartum -- and DS was six weeks early, which means I got
it *during* his big growth spurt. He still nurses on demand, and a
lot, and I'm on a clockwork 29 day cycle.

I'm a Brit too, living in the US. The first time I ever heard the expression
was on South Park, of all places!

My grandma's name was Flo. Wasn't there an Aunt Flo on that children's show
Bod? (Does anyone even remember Bod or am I showing my age?)

That reminds me of a completely irrelevant story -- once at a holiday meal we
were discussing family resemblances, and I said something in jest about
"Great-Aunt Florence's legs," never dreaming that anyone present even *had* a
great-aunt named Florence. My mother immediately fired up and said that none of
us had Great-Aunt Florence's legs, thank goodness, they were the most terrible
legs she'd ever seen. I have forgotten what was wrong with them now ...

Interesting question. In my case, I think it's robust estrogen, because I've
never miscarried or had trouble conceiving, nor had any supply problems, and I
also have had no vaginal dryness during breastfeeding. I get the dryness during
pregnancy, which is backwards to what most women have.

I wouldn't necessarily suspect a hormonal basis just yet. Miscarriages are
unfortunately very common :-(

I assume you've looked into thyroid and all that? Can't remember if it came up
before.

Have the doctor run at least a TSH to check thyroid function, possibly a
thyroid panel as well or when the TSH comes back.

Yeah, I know. I guess I'm just looking for some reasons for two in a row, in
less than a year, kwim? I am going for some testing in a month. We'll see
what that brings.

I did have my thyriod tested back in April by my GP and supposedly
everything was fine. I'm going to ask that it is checked again. Several
women in my immediate family have hypothyriodism, including my sister.

Thanks Kathy, what is a thyriod panel? Just so I know what I'm asking for. I

It is hard to say. I have all the bf symptoms you mention except that
I couldn't bf my first all the way and had to take a bunch of
galactagogues to bf my second. I do have fertility issues too:
slightly high prolactin, low thyroid, and diabetes/PCOS.

I never get my cycle back until I stop lactating though. I had a
little bit of bleeding that I thought was a cycle at 9 weeks, but in
retrospect I don't think it was.

I read later in the thread, but will post all info here. Watch out
for doctors with the thyroid because they kept telling me mine was
fine while I felt bad and had high TSH levels, and finally I found a
doctor who treated me. I did m/c during the time I was untreated too.

Yes. I feel that knowing my history with the recent m/c's my OB/GYN would be
more understanding and may really look at the results more carefully. I'm
hoping anyway.

First lactation: kid was 11.5 mo and nursing 2x/day when it came back.
Second lactation: kid turns 1 in 4 days, still nurses 5-10x/day. No sign
of AF.
