I started my new job a few weeks ago, and was really nervous about the pumping
issue since I'm in a really small town and a tiny hospital, not a lot of staff,
that kind of thing. The day before I started I told the Chief Nursing Officer
that I am breastfeeding and asked if it would be a problem for me to pump
during my shift since I'm the only RN on my floor and to my surprise, she told
me that they have a lactation room set up for that purpose! I know a lot of
hospitals have that, but I haven't worked in one that did, and especially not
in a place so small! It's a nice little room with a padded rocking
chair/glider and even a little fridge. The only annoying thing is that there's
no sink, so I have to take my pump to the bathroom all milky to clean it.
