I have a quick question, my husband and I are expecting twins in December
and I plan on bottle feeding, can anyone suggest a certain type of bottle
that worked best for your babies? There are so many to choose from and I'm
having a hard time deciding on which kind to use. Thank You.

I bought the Avent disposables because I wanted to use them but when the
babies came home they were to hard to use since I found the measure markings
were not very accurate and it was hard to "burp" when you only had two
ounces in a bottle. I later found you did not have to burb them.

We went through the Dr. Brown, the vent air, the regular bottle, and
everything else we could think of. I never did find any that helped more
with the gas then others - my guys had a lot of problems with that.

I had to do all over again probably would start and stay with the Avent
disposables (but get the cheap Walmart bags - you get 2x as much for about
half the price and I had less leaks with them then the more expensive brand
names). If you are keeping track of how much formula they eat, I ended up
measuring the water with a measuring cup or a non disposable bottle and then
dump it in since the lines on any of the disposable bags never did seem to
be accurate. I did like the Dr. Brown but the vent air (Playtex I think)
was just a pain in the but and did not seem to help anyway.

Just my 2cents.

Amanda, congratulations on your twins--it will be a wonderful experience
for you!

Our NICU nurses suggested we use Avent bottles, but I really think that it
will depend on what your babies like. Ours probably would like just about
anything (for some reason, we're lucky that way).

We used Avent because I had heard they were good for switching between BF &
bottles. When the girls were born we found out that Jordan preferred the
Playtex bottles & Madison preferred the Avent. You may want to buy 1 or 2 of
each brand before the babies are born and then see which kind they like best.
You're right, there are a lot to choose from. I've seen a couple kinds that
have come out in the past couple years that weren't available when my kiddos
were born.

We use Dr. Brown's & Podee hands-free when needed (& sometimes when not).

We were using Avent 4 oz but these became too small rapidly, also, created
quite a vaccuum and many air bubbles are created, which the baby then
swallows.

Though I don't have real proof that one vs. the other is any superior
solution as regards burping since we got better at burping as time went
along also. Nothing has eliminated need to burp, even Podee which does not
create a strong vaccuum & bubbles in the "sauce".

Amanda,
We went through so many bottles and nipples! I bought all the expensive
Playtex Drop-ins and they absolutely hated them! The nipple is very hard
to suck from, better if you are goin from breast to bottle. JMO, but I
feel the Dr. Brown's is just hype, might be better for reflux babies,
but no need to splurge if you have no "real" feeding problems.

When my babies were younger, they used the Munchkin (Johnson) Healthflow
5 oz. bottles. They were easy for Mom to hold and the nipple was great.
Now that they are older, we use the Playtex Ventaire and I also like
these. Similar nipple and again, easy to hold.

Happy Shopping!!

we used Advent disposables for Alix and everything else for Callie who
ate too fast and have a hard time burping. we eventually put Callie
back on Advent when she got a little older.

the Advent bag comes with clips (i think, or do you buy them
separate?) so i would mix a pitcher of formula and fill several bags
(i don't remember how long the formula was good for after mixed), clip
them, stick them in a plastic box in the fridge, and warm them in a
cup of water when i needed them.

On the few occasions we used bottles, Avent worked fine. You do need to be
careful not to *over*-tighten them, because that makes them leak! I've never
quite figured out how that worked.

By the way, if you change your mind about breastfeeding, let us know -- there
are lots of us here who have breastfed twins successfully who can help.

OMG!!!! That is terrible! I am so sorry, did you cry? I know when the girls
were little the breast milk was like liquid gold. that seems like a huge loss.

Ditto that! Strangest thing I've ever seen. The tireder you are makes it
so much worse when the bottle is leaking all over baby, and the more
adamant the next time that you will tighten them properly next time which
only ends up making the problem worse.

They need to put a warning label on them that says to not overtighten... ;-

We used the Ventaire with our twins and they worked okay until the bottoms
started to wear out and cause leaks. We liked them, but eventually had to
order new bottoms which were almost as expensive as new bottles. With my new
little one, we are using the Playtex nursers with the new clear, bigger nipple.
It is going fairly well though Jenna is still getting the hang of bottle
feeding. She is breastfeeding and has only had a few bottles in her short
life. I would second the breastfeeding suggestion. I did not do it with my
twins because I was sick after they were born and they were premies and given
bottles in the hospital and couldn't get the hang of nursing-- they were small
and lazy suckers. I think I could have made a go of it with bigger babies and
a healthier mom. I'm really enjoying bf'ing this time and it seems so much
easier-- virtually no clean-up and its ready as soon as she starts crying.
Like I said, I've never done it with twins, but there are lots of folks on this
ng who could give you support if you change your mind.
