I'm a mediator in Santa Barbara and have worked for more than two
decades with divorcing & post-divorced families on child support
issues. Each county in California has court guidelines regarding the
amount of support to be paid...but they are guidelines and there are
many variables such as the earnings of each parent and the amount of
time each parent has with the children... and many others. Parents
work well in mediation, with a neutral third party, in understanding
all the variables and how they can make custody arrangements which are
in the best interests of the children and then have sufficient funds
for support of those children. I have found less frustration and more
generosity in this area because folks really do love their children
and want them to be able to support them.
Think about mediating. It's probably happening in your community.
