MODIFICATION OF child support and alimony denied,,

58 years old single mother of two teens, younger one is special needs,, I
divorced greek priest,,, he was put on a sabboical by church nothing in
writing,, BISHOP told me if you do not go back to your husband today you
will end up with nothing.. SUPPORT STOPPED 4/1/2003 I receive 150 a month
what I have received thus far does not add up to what I am supposed to get
in one month, needless to say I am going in the hold slowly, and I just
lost my job,, FL, does not seem job friendly... and storms have not helped
my situation. Ex husband has been in school since fall of 2002, he now
holds licence for marriage counselor and mental health counselor intern,,
and states he does not make enough money.. he does not want to pay support
for his children on alimony for me he suggested he would send me to school
to get a career and to gain my self esteem and thus eliminate the alimony
I am supposed to receive until I die.
My younger son due to his mental conditons will be with me for the rest of
my life.. THere are no visits from father to son,,, he has been invited
but does not answer,, a few e mails were transferred and children did not
want to continue with e mails,,we had to move which upset the younger
child. He is now on the mend with new medications. THe ex husband had
the money to get an attorney,, and go to school at a very expensive,
private school in Fl. He has hidden assets however I have no way to prove
this in court as I do not have an attorney.. THe state sent him a letter
that they will take his licence and registration his lawyer and he state
that the General Master made an error in awarding DENIAL OF MODIFICATION
OF SUPPORT AND ALIMONY therefore my money should be what is stated in
divorce papers. He stated in court (ex) that he would like to send me to
school so I can gain self esteem and a new career at age 58 which is young
in a way, but not my idea to return to school in view of the fact I need a
job to supplement the $150.00 I receive to pay the bills. Since the state
sent him a letter that he will lose his drivers licence and registration
which his attorney states is another error, they do not even know the
older boy is still in HS. He was held back due to living in greece for a
year, upon our return to USA, I felt it would be better for this child to
be retainned for that year. Also my younger son was not able to speak at
age five, and had no control of bodily functions he was taken to CHOP in
Philadelphia where he had a total neurological work up and heart surgery I
have handled everything my self,,,,,,, day by day year by year,,The
General Master in the last court case stated that the ex husband
voluntaily decreased his salary on his own due to the fact he did not want
to remain celibete, and I may also add since he was in school since Fall
of 2002 did have a plan for his future. The judge I shall go before I
have been in court with before, he asked the ex are you looking for a job
he said yes, do you have any money in your pocket he said ten dollars, I
motioned to ask a question the JUDGE angerily replied that if I said one
more word I would indeed be ejected by the deptuty who made a physical
motion to come near me,, mind you I am not a lawyer, when you are in court
without represntation and do not know the court format, what do you DO? My
question and concern is how will I fair in front of this judge for the 2nd
time without representation, he will have his attorney,, there will be 4
men in that room and myself,, the judge, the ex husband, the attorney and
the deputy. The state has told me by phone that they have an attorney
reviewing my papers which I have sent them everthing, but I have nothing
in writing the child support enforcement is 250 miles away so I have done
everything by mail..I seems I did not fair well on change of venue,
frankly speaking these trips to court have become an expense more than I
can handle but if I want to win child support I must go there, my car is
very old and is on it's last legs. While married I was a model wife,
excellent mother giving birth alone twice, did every child event on my
own, more or less I was a wife to be seen in name only I was verbally
abused and at the end physical abuse. I gave my ex husband 3 chances to
mend his ways and get involved with his children and his wife, at no time
did he ever offer me emotional support. I found a set of notes he kept on
me while married:Did not offer emotional support to my wife. I took her
for granted. Verbally abusive, obsessively controling (through money -her
personal expenses for her and the children. I degraded her for her lack
of education (her view were not to my liking) You are stupid, idiot you
don't understand you are just a houswife, I had control of the money sole
source of income and was stingy with money. I did not give her enough to
buy what she needed, You are illiterate, and the list goes on.. I am very
happy to be divorced, but it seems he still has control over the money!

My children seem to have adjusted well to a home that is calm and without
arguments. He did not want to do any thing that involved his children..
The last time I took the boys to visit their father was in 2000 we were
still living close,, I took them to church and they were supposed to spend
the rest of the day with their father. they called me at 1 pm and said mom
come and get us we are hot,hungry and want to come home, he had them
sitting in the hot sun in front of the church there was no one in the
parking lot he was about 500 ft from them. I also put him through his
last master degree in NY. We have moved many times,, also while married
was not allowed to have any friends and my family was not allowed to visit
me in my own home.

If anyone reading this has more experience on this subject than I do ,
kindly drop me a line with your input. I have filled out the response to
the best of my ability and also sent them to the child enforcement
office,, I keep detailed records of everything I do with the state. My
next court date is the end of November, what are my chance to collect the
money he owes me? IS this man a dead beat dad, or does he cover himself
by send $150.00 a month for three people? Thank YOU for taking the time

Self-esteem, self-esteem! How many crimes are committed in its name
in the U.S. today -- including the notion that an adult woman is entitled to
sponge off her ex for life.

I think things were better in the old days. My parents and other
adults thought it was very important to keep an eye open for self-esteem in
children. If there was any sign of it, they did what they could to stamp it
out. They thought modesty was a much more valuable virtue. My observation
is that there are far too many people around with loads of self-esteem, but
no discernible talent to back it up.
