This is my first time doing this. I wasn't sure where to start. It
seems like I keep hitting dead ends right and left. I am currently
living with a divorced father of a wonderful little boy. However, the
ex is a nightmare and has made things very difficult for us. Long
story VERY short. The child support used to be in Washington STate
but recently got moved to New York where we live. The amounts,
basically everything about it is wrong. He has tried to file an
objection and keeps getting the run around which is very frustrating
when there is a 20 day limit on time to file this objection. I would
love to be able to help him with some sound advice but I just can't
seem to find any out there. If anyone out there has any experience or
knowledge about how to do this or New York child support in general,
please let me know. THank you for your time.

Most stares have Father's Rights groups that can help with the training.
Search the net for one in your area. As for missing the objection, don't
let it get you down too much. If the amount is wrong, you can always file a
modification.

Thanks for the advice. We have tried locating a Father's Rights group
in New York City but everytime we fill out something for information
we get an attorney or pre-paid legal service that calls us back. I'm
a little leary of someone who promises to take the case for $24 a
month. Do you have any experience with that kind of thing? Also
thanks for the encouragement with the deadline of objection. It's
kind of funny how much time we spend on the phone or going to the
different places the court sends us to get told we need to go or call
somewhere else. Navigating the course is NOT easy. I'm convinced it
is the courts that make deadbeat dads. Again, thanks for taking the
time to read and respond it just helps to know there are people out
there going through the same thing. EB & SM & DM

Just be careful about what Fathers Rights group you join should you decide
too. Some of them are bitter men that create a woman haters club. Most
aren't from my experience, but those organizations will do you little good.
Make sure the group cares about the kids first, and you second. There are
now hybrid groups that have formed that are called "parent's rights" or
something similar. These are good too.

There is usually a fee associated with a group for membership, but don't let
that turn you off. Find out if they are a registered non-profit org. If
so, then you can put a little more faith in them. We collect memberships
dues to keep our org afloat. We have to pay for the conference rooms,
father's day picnic activities, brochures, cards, website, ect. Nobody gets
paid, all time is donated, but it still takes money to keep things moving.
