View Full Version : update on sick :-(

well I'm not sure if the sickness was actually anything to do with this, but
by the time DH came home on Wednesday I was doubled up in pain, paracetamol
did nothing to shift it and eventually decided I should go to the emergency
room. Obviously they initally treated it as appendicitis, as the pain was on
the RHS, though I didn't think it was that, because though it was bad, it
wasn't that bad and I assumed appendicitis would be worse.
My bloods and urine did however indicate appendicitis, but the ultrasound in
the ER was inconclusive, so they gave me pain relief and had me wait til the
morning for a proper ultrasound with a specialist doctor, which concluded I
didn't have appendicitis, but by this time the pain had spread and I was
feeling awful, so they did the logical thing and sent me to L&D for them to
do their checks, everything was fine baby wise and I was told I needed to be
admitted.
I was a bit unclear as to what was going on and what anyone thought the
problem was, but DH sorted out the admission stuff and I was taken up to a
ward, later my obgyn came to see me and explained the problem, basically my
growing uterus is pressing on the ureter (thing between the kidney and
bladder) on the right hand side, which has caused an infection and pain.
So I'm being treated with IV fluids and IV antibiotics, I've been told that
without the IV fluids things would be much worse (this was when I begged to
go home) and due to problems with the IV site I did go several hours without
them and I am inclined to agree, ouch!
I won't know anymore til Monday, when I see the urologist and obgyn, over
the weekend it's been junior doctors. I feel a bit lacking in knowledge
right now, one doctor said I would have this problem til I delivered and
another said it should go away in a few weeks as I get bigger. I really hope
to be home on Monday, but I've no idea if that is realistic as right now I
don't feel any better.

Whew, well, that's a lot better than liver problems, which can be part of
pre-eclampsia. The major symptom of it is pain on the RHS of the abdomen. I
suspect that is why you were admitted -- did they seem to take your bp a lot?
I"m sorry about the infection -- hope it clears up very quickly.
