I just got email from CSU's pre-vet advisor. She said "I emailed one of
the Associate Deans in the Veterinary Department. He has access to
records dating back to the late 60's and told me that based on those
records - we have admitted students from outside of CSU and Colorado. So,
if it ever happened differently - it would be before that date and I don't
have the answer for you -sorry."

So, at least in the late 1960s, students from outside of Colorado WERE
admitted to the vet school there. FWIW.

Thank you for your trouble.

Yes, but only from certain western states.

So?

The experience I recounted here is that students from certain neighboring
states, by arrangement of those states with CSU, and a few foreign students
sponsored by their governments, were present at CSU in the '70s when I was
there.

So, that's the answer I got. I said I'd ask, I did, and although my
question was specific (I asked about admission of students from out of
state in general and Maryland in particular), the response was vague. I
just wanted to report back since I said I would.

No, not so. My cousin the zookeeper went to CSU in the late 60's. She
was a graduate of a high school in Massachusetts, and then Wellesley
college, also in MA.

You don't know how to back down, do you?

No I don't. Because we did extensive research on this to determine
how my dd could do what she wished to do (which at that point was to
become a vet). This was in the late 70s - probably about 1977, and
the rules changed after that, and may have been different before that.

The college she went to wouldn't have had too much to do with it - it
would be her state of residence.

Your description accords exactly with my experience as a student at CSU in that
time frame.

It also occurs to me that perhaps for states with their own vet
schools (and I don't know whether MA has one or not) students would be
able to gain admission to other state vet schools.

Our problem was that at that time, Maryland did not have a vet school
and had no agreement with any other state to admit students to a vet
school. So a student from MA in 1968 would not be congruent with a
student from MD in 1977.

The rules changed very shortly after that when MD set up an agreement
with VA Tech. So by the time dd#1 would actually have been entering
vet school, she could have done so at VT.
