View Full Version : No breast tenderness.....is this right?

Hi,
I'm getting paranoid because everything I keep reading says that I
should have some breast tenderness or soreness now that I'm pregnant
and I haven't had any. I've been attributing it to the fact that I'm
still b'feeding a couple times a day, but now I'm worrying. Plus, my
two sisters both know I'm pregnant now and they keep saying I should
feel something (they didn't nurse with their babies, though).
What does everyone else think? Have you experienced anything like this?

Yep, I had breast tenderness as my first sign with DD1, and absolutely
none with DD2.

I've been meaning to re-introduce myself here (haven't posted much since
2003, and even then I was mostly a lurker), but wanted to respond to
your question first...
This is Kathy from the recent thread about "pregnancy, breastfeeding and
more"...in case you didn't see my last post on that thread, I am also
pregnant! Got 2 positive HPTs! Should be due in middle to late
February.
I wanted to let you know that I am not experiencing any breast soreness
this time around either (and I am still BFing DD#1 2-3 times a day). I
was a bit concerned too, because that was the first symptom I
experienced last time...I was very very sore! But, I feel reassured now
that it has everything to do with the fact that I am still BFing...this
is only my opinion, but I don't think you should worry too much about
lack of soreness either.
Everyone experiences pregnancy differently...there is no one "right" way
to feel. I have been told that you should take note if you've been
having symptoms that seem to go away...that's a different story!
Congratulations to you!

I think it's one of those YMMV things. I had no breast tenderness of note at
the beginning of either pregnancy, nor do I remember it being an issue later
on. It's possible I was _used_ to breast tenderness as I get seriously nasty
PMS in other ways, but I don't know. I wasn't breastfeeding during either
pregnancy.
An online friend of mine was due with her first baby just about to the day
that I was due with mine. We were about 6 or 8 weeks pregnant when we met,
and she was certain there was something wrong with her baby because she
hadn't had the slightest bit of nausea. I was projectile vomiting throughout
the day by 10 weeks, and she never experienced morning sickness. As it
turned out, her 'baby' is now a healthy 2 1/2 year old. Mine was stillborn.
You just can't tell how healthy a pregnancy is by indicators like this, as
it very much depends on the woman, and what her hormones are doing at the
time.
I think all the books mean, is that you _may_ have breast tenderness, so
don't be surprised if it happens. Just like you are likely to get nausea,
but then you may not, or it may only be mild, and your baby is likely just
as healthy as the next person's.
I know what it feels like though, I picked up on everything possible there
was to worry about, and worried about it, with #2. Even the worry didn't
apparently affect her, she's now a healthy 11 1/2 month old.

I nursed Meg through my pregnancy with RD and did not have that breast
soreness from my pregnancy with Meg. Nipples did get sensitive in phases
though.

I didn't get breast soreness with #2. I was still feeding too. I got a bit
sore on the nipples when feeding, but that was later on only. Nothing at the
beginning.

G'day
Like everyone else said, it varies. I'd say be thankful! I'm still
gritting my teeth while my 3.5 yr old feeds. I was hoping for things to
get better after the first trimester, but for me at 17 wks it still
hurts like #@@$@!! about 30-50% of the time. 8-(

Well, with my first three pregnancies I never had breast tenderness. With
#4 it's been a whole different story! They were tender right away this time
around.

Hi, I didn't get breast tenderness with first pregnancy and don't have it
(yet!) with second (and I'm breastfeeding a nearly 2 year old, with lots of
teeth, 3 plus times in a 24-hour period!). I'm at nearly 13 weeks this time
round.

I'm a little over 24 weeks, and it is still not fun. :( I just dread
letting the 2yo "eat" as he so cutely puts it. I can handle it at night for
a short time, but the daytime is the worst.
