How far along is she? She could be not dilated and go into labor tomorrow,
or she could walk around at 3 cm for a month. How dilated is really no
indication of when labor will start as far as I know.

Her dilation and effacement tell you NOTHING about when she'll
go into labor. She can be hard and closed and go into labor in the
next few hours, or she can walk around for weeks 4+cm dilated and
completely effaced. Some caregivers will claim they have a clue from
this information, but they don't. There's really not even any value
in them routinely doing late term internal exams to *get* this
information. All it does is raise false hopes (or equally false
discouragement). It just doesn't mean anything significant.

Best wishes,
Ericka

Ok Sorry I forgot to put inthat information she is 37 weeks tomorrow her
baby is due August 8th, she now tells me that she is noticing a little brown
stuff (I assume the plug) when she wipes. I just keep trying to assure her
everything is ok but she wants to know when labor will start...Like I would
know. Thanks again for any info...Star

I think that indicates nothing, and this is from my experiences lately...
lol
I lost my plug a while back, I guess on the 27th of June (looking back at
old threads) and I had my scheduled appointment the next day and I believe
that was when I was sitting at 1cm, apparently. Next appointment, a week
later, I was at 2cm, and I've been there ever since. It's now been almost 2
weeks of 2cm with nothing. I'm due (according to u/s) on the 25th of this
month. I have a feeling I'll go way over anyways, but I also know that this
thing has to come out sooner or later and can't stay inside forever!

Sorry, even that doesn't say much. A little brown stuff
is usually a bit of old blood, not her mucous plug. Even if it
were her mucous plug, that doesn't necessarily mean labor will
start soon. If this is her first, then statistically, by the
time she gets to 41 weeks 1 day, half of women will have gone
into labor. So, in 4 weeks and 1 day, she'll have had a 50/50
chance at going into labor. That's probably the best you can
do in terms of predictions. She *certainly* shouldn't be on
pins and needles that she'll be going into labor Any Minute
Now. That's a recipe for frustration and makes it increasingly
likely that she'll acquiesce to (or start begging for) an
elective induction that puts her in the way of all sorts of
unnecessary risks and complications.

Best wishes,
Ericka

Me again thanks so much for the info...she went to the doctor today and she
is 1 cm dialted and 60% efaced in one week she went from being closed and
50% to 1 cm and 60% efaced like I said its been a while since I have had
kids so I really dont remember all I know ia I am excited to be a grandma
for the first time at 48 years old!!! I just dont know what to tell her
anymore because I do think she is as excited as I am....Star
