I am an extremely impatient person, so the fact that DH and I have not come up
with more than one possible name for our little DD is getting to be a big
frustration for me. DD#2 is due in about six weeks, so I know we still have
time, but again, I am very impatient.

So I am hoping to get a few ideas to help us from you guys. DD#1 is Sophia
Mae. We knew we would be calling her Sophie for the first several years at
least, but gave her the name Sophia as an option for her to use when/if she
would like a more "grown up" name. Mae is DH's paternal grandmother's name.

So here are our "rules" for naming #2....

*Something equally as feminine yet not cutesy for this one.
*DH is really big on nicknames, and it's a deal breaker for him that there is a
nickname possibility with whatever we choose.
*I would like something that ends in an "a", maybe even "ia" like Sophia
*Middle name will be either Louise (my mother's middle name) or Alexandra
(after my maternal grandfather Alexander), depends on what goes with the name
we pick.

OK, after all that long background, does anybody have any suggestions for us??

Oh, and our last name is a one sylable name starting with "L" so please so no
"L" names, after marriage, my name is Linda L*** which is just too much, and
SIL is Lori L*** which is just as boring!

Thank you VERY MUCH for any help you can give me :)

Linda
Mommy to Sophie, 2 years
and girl #2, due Sept 7th

Aurora was almost Athena Louise, which I think would be pretty cute with
Sophia since Athena was the Greek goddess of wisdom. But if you want to
stick with the "-ia" theme, here are some others that spring to mind (that
Cindi didn't mention):

Aurelia
Cynthia
Dahlia
Dania
Daria
Felicia
Georgia
Gloria
India
Jasia (a pretty, Polish feminine form of John)
Julia
Marcia (I know someone who pronounced this Mar-si-a)
Maria
Nadia
Patricia
Sylvia
Virginia
Zinnia

DD is Emma. We call her Em. Sometimes I call her Irma
(OK, its a lousy nickname but it amuses me). Be warned
that Emma has become extremely popular, but I love it.

If ours is a girl, we are most likely naming her Rose Lindsey after my
Grandma. Her name was actually Rosa, which sounds pretty feminine to me!

A few that we have considered that meet your rules are:

Rosa
Hannah
Delilah
Amanda (already mentioned)

What about Sadia? Then you could use Sadie as her nickname when she's a
child and see where she wants to go from there. I also like Sasha.

Julia (nickname Julie) (only drawback is that the middle name Louise
reminds me of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the Seinfeld actress)
Alexandra (use as first name, nickname Alex, Alexa, Lexy)
Jessica (nickname Jessie)
Amanda (nickname Mandy)
Rebecca (nickname Becky, Becca)

DH is not too big on names that are not considered classic, like Sadia. I have

Well, I'm partial to Katerina. :-D You could shorten it to Kat
(although my Katerina doesn't suit it but we call her Pussy Cat).

I absolutely love the name Phaedra but my dh doesn't but I think it
would go well with Alexandra (the Greek connection). You could shorten
it to "fay" as well.

What about Anastassia. Then you have a host of nicks to choose from.
Ophelia, same thing.

I like the sound of Anastassia Louise. I met a little one whose name
Anastassia and they called her Tassy.

My cousin is named Evonne, and everyone calls her Evie, which would satisfy
your DH's taste ;-)
And I think it flows well with Luise...

I have to mention: I tried saying out loud several of the names MKPers
mentioned here, and Alexandra doesn't really flow well with them - at least
not in my ears. It's fine as a name on its own, though. Luise flows well
with almost anything. Don't know how important the "flow" is to you guys,
though...

My friend is called Aleksandra, and everyone calls her Sandra instead of

Now that you mention it, I like Edra (it can be spelled Aedra too).

What about Mia Louise?
I know nickname for that one might be difficult, but it flows well together.

Or, Emilia Louise (nickname could be Emily or Emma Lou ;-)

Or Olivia Louise (nickname could be Ollie)

Or, as I mentioned in another post, Evonne Louise (nickname that your DH
likes: Evie)

Or, as someone else said, Alexandra Louise , but with nickname Sandra

I'd better stop doing this and go through my lists - we haven't picked any
names yet ;-)

Just for the fun of it:
Madame Zaritska suggests baby names -
http://pregnancyandbaby.com/inside/look/1028.htm

It gave me the list of these names:
For a male child:
Broderick
Keven
Markell
Stephan
Tristin

For a female child:
Ally
Ivette
Kate
Olivia
Shayla

The only one I actually like from this list is Tristin.

Here's what I got

Male:
Clarence
Jameson
Luis
Sean
Tobias

Female:
Carla
Emely
Leticia
Marlena
Tristan

Funny how we both got Tristan, but for different sexes!

I *think* we might have a name picked out for the front runner, so we'll see if
we end up using it.

Linda
Mommy to Sophie, 2 years
and girl #2, due Sept 7th

Nah, what they meant was that the Brits do things like pronouncing
"Leicester" as "Lester"!
