View Full Version : Another 31 week update

Another uneventful appointment yesterday. Everything is going well.
My only complaint is my feet. They haven't been swelling too much,
but the little bit of swelling I have had is making them very stiff
and sore that it often hurts to walk even when they aren't swollen.
Unfortunately, my doc said there's not much I can do but put my feet
up and drink lots of water. Both of which I have been doing already.
In addition, my feet itch like crazy! I should've expected this since
it has happened with my other two pregnancies, but somehow I was
hoping to avoid it this time. It's so unfair that just when it's
starting to get difficult to reach my feet, my athlete's foot flares
up. Ugh!!! To make it worse, I had planned to go in for my very
first pedicure next week as a special treat, but I doubt anyone's
going to want to touch my feet now. I hope I can get it under control
soon. My doctor has never heard of a correlation between athlete's
foot and pregnancy, but this is the third time I've had it flair up in
my last trimester. Weird, huh?

Sleep is getting more and more difficult, mostly because the baby is
so active at night. That's not a good sign. I've been praying and
praying to finally get a baby that will have good nighttime habits,
but I'm starting to think I'm going to have another night owl.

I'm getting a little worried that we haven't settled on the baby's
middle name yet. I know we still have a lot of time, but I hate
leaving anything to the last minute. His first name will be Aamon.
In DH's family, the initials ADR are very prominent and that's one of
the reasons we chose the first name. Dean and Dane are family names
which would work well as middle names. However, our fathers' names
are Alan and Allen and we've always wanted to use Allan as a middle
name. It didn't fit with our first two sons' names and now that this
is probably our last, we feel like this is our last chance to use it.
I go back and forth on what I like best.

I can't believe how close my due date (and so many others) is getting.
There are so many of us due in September. It's going to be exciting
when the announcements start rolling in.

Sorry to hear about the foot troubles. The athlete's foot combo seems
particularly unfair! As I noted a few posts ago, I feel *very* fortunate to
have no foot-swelling at this point <knocks wood>. I did get some lovely
tick bites this past weekend, but still no pregnancy related complaints ot
speak of.

My baby is quite active at night as well I think, but I sleep through it for
the most part. The reason I think he is pretty active though is because if I
do get up to go to the bathroom, when I come back he is extremely active as
I fall asleep. Also, if I am asleep & DH is awake, he see the baby moving
all over. I hope he will change his mind about night-busyness when he is
actually born :-)

Aamon Allen is nice (though a bit like Ethan Allen to my ear). Do your other
boys have the ADR initial combo? If so, it might be good to give it to this
new guy as well--for solidarity donchaknow :-)

I can't believe that we are so close. I'm guessing Cheryl will be the first
to have an announcement!

Hi Sher, it's good to hear that your appointment went without incident.
Those are always good to hear about. : )
As for your feet, I know what you mean about the stiffness. I haven't had
any swelling (except a slight swell once), but sometimes in the morning I'll
wake up and my toes and fingers will be really stiff and sore. I have
chalked it up to the relaxin having an effect. It's been getting worse as
my pregnancy progresses, and it started about the time when I got pubis
symphysis dysfunction, also a result of the relaxin.

Did you find that your other babies were of the same temperament in the womb
as out? You mentioned night owls for kids...

Those names you have all sound good together, they flow well. We took ages
to come up with a middle name if it's a boy. Then one day we were just
talking and it clicked for both of us. : ) We were lucky though. My mum
said that my brother was a week born before they named him. LOL He was
just 'the baby' or some other pet name. I would go crazy. But then again,
I know that some people like to wait to see a bit of the personality of
their baby before naming them, and that's a neat idea too.

There sure are a lot of September babies. : ) It will be fun to read about
them. Take care Sher,
-Alicia

Our first son's initials are CJR, to match DH. For our second son, we
actually picked the middle name first. We were going to call him
<something> Allan. When we decided on Ethan for a first name, we
debated whether or not we should still use the middle name and in the
end used DH's first name for the middle. I just did not want a child
named for a furniture store. As it is, he loves to drive by the Ethan
Allen store and see his first name in big letters.

I hope I'm not scaring anyone into thinking they have a night owl
brewing. I'm just speculating at this point. I'm not sure if the
other boys were this active at night before they were born, or if I've
just forgotten. This one seems to be more active in general, but
again, it could just be that I just don't remember after 5 and 7
years. I do know that this one does not hiccup as much, but I don't
know if that means anything.

I'm sorry about your feet problems. As for the swelling goes, I have some
around the left ankle, but none around the right ankle - weird! On the
other hand, the legs do not feel heavy or hurt so that's a relief. What your
doctor said about putting your feet up and drinking lots of water will help
you. Have you tried soaking them in cold water (with some sea salt added)?
It works wonders for me!

So did you find a correlation between baby sleeping at night during
pregnancy and after the birth?
My baby is very active during the day and I notice it moving when I'm asleep
too (well, just when I'm about to fall asleep, actually), but never so much
that it kept me up at night. I assume there's still time since I do have 10
weeks to go.
I do not know if this means anything - the ob/gyn who gave us labour lecture
at childbirth classes said she had a very active baby and was scared of how
active he will be once he's born - and then he was a very quiet child.
I do hope that your baby will settle down at night and stop being such a
night owl!

You're worried about the middle name? We haven't still picked out first
names!! It's on my to-do list but somehow we always have something more
*current* to do! We do have one name for a girl which is about 90% decided
about, but lots and lots of names for a boy which we still did not go
through. Fortunately over here (Italy) we have a 28 days deadline to choose
a name and register the baby - in the hospital they just mark it as "X
(mother's last name), boy" or "X (mother's last name) girl".
It must be some of my mother's genes - she called me one name in the
hospital and when we came home, she said the name did not suit me and named
me another one. I am actually very happy with that name now, it sounds so
much better, so no hard feelings ;-)

From your list, I like Dean and Allan. Will your baby boy share the ADR
initials, too?
