I think it's time to start weaning. I really am fighting this, but feel it
is best for us.

What suggestions do you have to start this process? I don't want to
traumatize her.

We co sleep and I've nursed her to sleep from the start.

I'd be surprised if you can wean and continue to co sleep, so you may have
to go the route of transitioning her to her own bed, then weaning.

What is your feeding pattern with her? How many times a day, I think
whatever you do you'll have to just start by dropping 1 and see how it goes!

I am also in the process of weaning. I have been doing it slowly for a few
months now. OK, I've been doing it extremely slow...LOL.....

We are down to an average of 6 times a day now. I am in the process of
dropping another session. I started with a few of the easiest seesions.
And I gave him a meal instead of nursing (at meal time). Now that he will
be a year on saturday, I have noticed there are days when he will nurse more
and days he will nurse much less. I use distractions to stretch out the
time between his nursing. (games and such)

Try to take the focus off of the "not wanting to nurse" and use fun
distractions or a cracker instead.

Hope this helps!

I have managed to wean two children while still cosleeping, so it is
possible. I did it slowly, just dropped a feed, for me the middle of
the day feeds were the easiest to drop. Then a week or more later I
would drop another feed. The second last feed to go was the morning one
and the last was the evening going to sleep one. I replaced feeds with
either drinks or cuddles or some other activity.

My eldest was 18months old when I stopped the last feed. She was upset
a little for a maybe 3 evenings, but not completely distraught or
anything. I talked to her about the feeds and gave her some warning
especially before discontining the morning and evening one. I told her
she was getting a big girl and breastmilk was for little babies.

I hope this helps

Well Carol Ann I wish you had more tips coming your way ;-). I had a hell
of a time weaning so I don't have many useful tips - sorry! I did continue
to co-sleep throughout and after the weaning process. That really didn't
seem to be all that hard although they didn't stop waking up asking to nurse
until they were weaned both day and night. After night weaning was complete
for the most part they didn't fuss or anything, just woke me up, asked, and
then went back to sleep when I said not till morning.

I just shortened and then eliminated nursing sessions slowly but surely.
Neither of mine wanted anything to do with weaning so it wasn't pleasant
even though it felt gradual to me (took months). It was easiest when we
were outside or out and about and if I didn't sit down. Sitting down was
not good, lol. I always offered food or drink in place of and/or before
nursing but that didn't help me much. Hope you get some better responses
then mine!!

I'm probably stating the obvious, but have you checked out Kellymom's
page? She has a list of suggestions for gentle weaning and some good
links.

All the best,
