Lorelei's first birthday was Thursday. We did not do anything special
on the day, but last night we had a dinner party (that's our first
birthday tradition--we have certain parties that we do for each year
for every child).
There were about thirty people and we had baked ziti and bread and
salad, and of course cake and ice cream for dessert. :-) The bakery
gives first birthday kids their own little layer of cake for free, so
we turned her loose with that. She was so cute. At first, she didn't
want to touch it, then she was delicate with it, but by the end it was
everywhere (John brought the dog in to help clean up some of the mess!)
and she was squealing with glee on a massive sugar high.
As far as the present opening went, after she opened the first one she
got stuck on the book that was in there and didn't want to look at
anything else. There were plenty of other kids there to help open the
presents, though.
Oh, and although we had practiced blowing out candles, when it came
time to do it she just looked at them blankly and stared at all of us
singing to her. Then after we blew them out for her, she started
blowing at the cake!
We hadn't had a big party like that since long before she was born, so
it was fun and I was happy it all went so smoothly.
She hasn't had her one year check up yet, but I'll post more about her
and what she's up to when I post about that.
