This is the first time i have used this and I hope i every one had a
great christmas and that the new year will all bring us all a happy
year to come, but i need some advice on reducing my breastfeeds on
putting my daughter onto solids she is 5 1/2 momths. At the moment she
has started on rice cceral once a day and i have been doing this for a
week and bit, and i am finding that she has started to cut out on of
her feeds, which means i have to be more organized as it is just so
easy to put them breast.. I would like to know what everyone else
started the babies and what is the best fruit or vegies and what ones
to stay away from.
Thank you for your time.

Actually, at that age, you don't want her to drop ANY feeds. The cereal is an
extra. Breast milk is very nutritious, and the solids are just for practice
with chewing and swallowing. Stay with one meal a day for a while, and don't
give too miuch. If she's having a lot, make the cereal a bit thicker. Your
aim is for her to eat normal food, after all.

I started DS1 on cereal but he didn't like it much. It turned out he was
really independent and wanted to hold his food himself, so at 7 1/2 months he
was onto finger food -- and it could have been earlier, but I was very
cautious. DS2 is 7 mo now and barely has any solids. I didn't bother with
cereal, and he threw up apple sauce and mashed potato (I posted about it last
week!). He likes bread-crusts, I've discovered -- along with grass and
paper...

Actually, this means you may want to step back from solids for a bit.
(Especially given that you started earlier than is recommended.) Solids
should NOT be a source of nutrition at this point; they are for learning
only. Under a year of age, breastmilk should be the main source of
nutrition and solid food should NOT displace any nursings.

Cereal is not a great starter food in any case; it's recommended for
formula-fed babies as it's fortified with so much iron, but it's not
especially interesting or tasty, and it's an excellent way to constipate
your baby. Try sticking with fruits and vegetables. Avocado is a very
good first food.
