View Full Version : Good chair during pregnancy

We are expecting our first baby in Dec. My wife is not comfortable in
any of the chairs/sofas that we have. We want to buy a good chair/sofa
for her. Is the rocker/glider with ottoman useful and comfortable
during pregnancy? From other postings on this newsgroup it looks like
they are very popular for nursing the baby. We plan to buy one of
those. But I am wondering if we should get something else now and buy
the rocker/glider when the baby is about to arrive.
Any comments/suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

Congratulations! I don't have a glider personally but if I'm in the mall and
my DD needs feeding I head on over to Toys R Us and feed her on one of their
demo gliders and boy do I LOVE it. As soon as we buy a new house and get
moved in I'm buying one! They are sooo comfortable and the rocking motion is
great for the baby, at least my DD likes it.

When we first found out that we were going to have a baby (in Feb.
2003) I told my husband, "we HAVE to get a rocker".
He was in disagreement at first, but I kept insisting...finally he
agreed to it.
We bought a Swivel Glider Rocker Recliner with Ottoman and we both
LOVE IT. I told hubby that I'd be OK with ANY type of rocker...but
the one we bought was the one we found the best price on.
I highly recommend a rocker/recliner regardless of whether or not you
buy a glider or a swivel chair. Though this is my first child, I have
found that rocking and reclining are both very relaxing during late
pregnancy...and I have a feeling that both will be equally as relaxing
even after Baby arrives.
I sometimes sit and recline and rock and read and baby wiggles and
kicks while I am rocking.
It is absolutely the MOST comfortable chair for me...I hardly ever sit
on the sofa these days.
I'm absolutely sure the chair will get even more use from my husband
once the baby arrives.

PS. We bought the chair off eBay...even paying for the shipping
charges it was MUCH less expensive than buying one at one of our local
stores.

We have a glider chair also, although I feel uncomfortable sitting in it for
great lengths of time (which is where I am at in my pregnancy.) The most
comfortable chair for me is a recliner (Like a Lazy Boy). It's cushy, I can
put my feet above my knees to help relieve the swelling, and with it
reclining at different intervals, it relieves the pressure put on me when I
have to sit in one spot for a long time.
I would get both.

We got my glider (a Dutalier, fwiw) when I was about 8 months. It was
wonderful for that last month! I didn't get the ottoman - it was just
a little too much motion for me.
My biggest suggestion - ymmv, so go to the store and try out a few to
see what your wife likes. Some people swear by rockers, others by
gliders.

For me, the rocker and ottoman are fabulous now that
I have the baby and am nursing. They were horrible
during the pregnancy, though, because the baby was
so heavy and the rocker just made that feel worse. I
would suggest lots and lots of pillows.
