View Full Version : Yet another false (and embarassing) alarm

As with Mlle C, it happened again. I was moving stuff around in the kitchen
(we moved in about two weeks ago), when suddenly it went "splash" all over
the floor. I tried to hold it, but to no avail, and so I thought my water
had broken. Since the last time they never broke on their own accord, I
figured that was it. The fact that my bladder might have emptied on the
baby's movement did cross my mind, as it happened with Mlle C, but the
quantity was so huge I thought "no, it's got to be IT".

At "almost" 36 weeks, I thought it was premature, but hey, nature is nature.
So, call my friend, then DH's dad so he could take over, and rush to the
birth centre where tests were run. Three hours later (including transport),
we were back home, and the diagnosis was in: I just wet my pants... How
embarassing!

Mind you, not as embarassing as FIL who never found the house and waited for
two hours at the WRONG door! A good thing it was only a false alarm...

Anyway, now week 36 really has kicked in, and everybody is happy about
that - me the first. Let him cook...

I'd be embarrassed too.

I'm glad the baby is staying put for now!

Been there, done that! Thought my water broke, and made the mistake of
telling my mom who lives four hours away. I warned her to a) not tell
anyone until we called to say we were sure, and b) to not come here
until we called to tell her we were sure.

Well, first she called everyone she knew. And on our way home after
learning it was nothing, I tried calling her to tell her this, and only
got voicemail. Suspicious, I called to check my voicemail. Sure enough,
there's mom saying that she's on her way. *grr* She showed up on our
doorstep several hours later, and we were plenty mad. We were already
on edge from being overdue, then all these aunts and cousins are
calling us to ask about how the baby is...so not only were we stupid,
but the whole world KNEW we were stupid...

Oh well, she's a first time grandma, we've since forgiven her! :) Baby
is nearly six weeks old now, showed up eight days late!

Oh, given the amount produced, I doubt very much more Kegels would have
helped!

It was like a swimming pool!

Start now & you might build up some "muscle" for the big day :-)

absolutely, I'll admit to not having the best pelvic floor in the world, but
I also can't imagine having such a flood, because on the occasions when I
did start having an accident, I clamped down and did manage to stop stuff,
so the worst I had was a dribble down the leg. I do my exercises regularly,
several times a day, at the moment, I didn't always, but it is definitely
worth doing, my mum tells me you really need to carry on doing them all your
life.

I've been doing them since day one, don't you worry!

Actually, my mother had me do Kegel since I was a kid, so it's sort of a
second nature to me. I suppose she didn't want me to develop her
incontinence problems later... and she was right!

Kegels can give you the "inner strength" not to start the river in
the first place. You would be amazed.

have you had a women's physio go through them with you? I've really had
trouble doing them since my 2nd delivery, I think I've finally cracked it,
but it's taken hours of coaching from my pilates instructor.

After Mlle C's pregnancy, I had a therapy with a specialist in pelvic
reconstruction and "reshaping", because I had "leaks" all the time. The
leaks have gone away, no more misadventures on that side... Except for that
big splash last week.

I think what really got me was the suddenness of it all. I really felt a
kick, then it all went out - in a matter of a few seconds, my bladder was
completely empty. So maybe I just didn't have time to react. Mind you,
whenever I feel "I have to go" now, I go and don't wait one second!

Yeah, those kicks get me sometimes too. I as of yet I have had no
leaks, but I really have to 'clench' fast!
