Hello,
Me and my husband will try to get pregnant next year, we are planning
ahead to have everything ready and to be able to have our first baby at
the perfect time in our lives.
I was wondering if anyone have any comments about Kaiser permanente
insurance? I found a plan that covers the maternity expenses, and that
it has a very reasonable monthly fee, I'm not very familiar with the
terms yet, but it's a plan where they give you a network of doctors,
and you can choose any of them. I live in Orange County, and I'm trying
to choose the best plan for our desire to become parents. I would
really apreciate it if you can share your experience with this company.
Thank you so much!

Hopefully someone local will pipe up, because
Kaiser quality can vary a lot depending on local management.
You should also check into your options regarding midwifery
and out-of-hospital birth. If you have a normal pregnancy,
midwifery tends to be associated with higher client satisfaction
(with outcomes as good or better), as does out of hospital birth.
You might not want to back yourself into an insurance corner
that stifles your options. Around here, Kaiser does include
some midwifery and birthing center options, but whether they
do varies on what's available locally and who's in network.
In general, people who are less happy with Kaiser
tend to be those who run into health complications. Some
have had difficulty getting access to specialists they felt
they needed, but I've heard that more with the HMO option.
If you have a PPO option, that might be less of an issue,
depending on the network.

Best wishes,
Ericka

What Ericka said. We found much better care with midwifery based
home birth. It is something you should seriously consider.
