FIVE-PART PRIMETIME SERIES, MEDICAL MYSTERIES, EXAMINES RARE AND
EXTRAORDINARY MEDICAL CASES, PREMIERING WEDNESDAY, JULY 26 ON ABC

Medical science has progressed exponentially in recent times, but scientists
are still left with unanswered questions when it comes to the human body.
From why a mother cant recognize her own childs face to why a young woman
spends most of her life sleeping, Medical Mysteries looks at some of the
rarest disorders and syndromes in medicine today. Each hour of the five-part
series will feature baffling medical conditions, as well as the doctors who
are working on cures. Medical Mysteries premieres on Primetime, WEDNESDAY,
JULY 26 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network, and will
continue for four additional weeks on Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m.

Over the course of the series, doctors will solve genetic puzzles,
explaining how these and other rare conditions occur and why, including:

o Sleep disorders that lead people into violence -- in an unconscious
state -- that can cost them their lives.

o Three generations of a family facing a fatal disease find hope by removing
an organ most people cant imagine living without.

o A woman whose hidden DNA leaves her unable to prove her identity or
provide a connection to her biological child.

o Senses far beyond the normal functions of sight, smell, hearing, taste and
touch.

o How an in-utero fight to the death between twins can leave the surviving
twin with a bizarre condition, unless risky laser surgery can save them both
before they are born.

o Attributes typically ascribed to werewolves are found in a human syndrome
marked by an aversion to daylight, excessive hair on the face and body and
sharp purple teeth.

Also, each hour of the limited series will feature a real medical mystery
component designed for viewer participation. This segment, called You Be the
Doctor, will provide viewers with clues to help them make their own online
diagnosis in a real case. At the end of each hour, viewers will learn how
well they scored.

Terence Wrong and Ann Reynolds are the senior producers of Medical
Mysteries. Rudy Bednar is the executive producer.
