Antibiotics by
[email protected]
Talk to me about antibiotics, specifically the "Z pack." I woke up
with what feels like bronchitis (woe is me!!!) and suddenly my whole,
"I'm not going to take anything because it'll hurt the baby..."
attitude has turned into "Show me the drugs!" I'm looking forward to a
cocktail of the Z pack,...

iced tea and toddlers by
Melissa Rizer
My inlaws think that I am being unreasonable when I ask them not to give
my 2 1/2 year old tea. These are the same people who feel she can have
candy as well, and that it's their right to do so because they're her
grandparents. My husband and I agree on this issue, but of course it's
me who's...

choosing disposable diapers - which brand? by
oregonchick
I am opting for disposable diapers. Does anyone have a preferred brand?
Price is not a huge issue, more concerned about blowouts and proper fit.
However, if there is a more economical brand that works well, I'm all ears!
There's Pampers Swaddlers, and Huggies Supreme, and Huggies with...

not to start controversy, but has anyone ever considered plastic surgery? by
oregonchick
I was watching the Discovery Health channel the other day, "Plastic Surgery:
Before and after". I was fascinated by the transformations. I'm sure they
only show the most dramatic ones, but I can't help but think about a boob
job and tummy tuck. Even after I lost all my pregnancy weight last...

Could I buy temporary health insurance to cover the cost of birth? by
Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward
I just had this probably crazy idea: since the health insurance plan I
have through my employer doesn't cover midwife care and I'd like to
have a home birth, could I buy supplemental temporary insurance just
for this?
The midwife has quoted about $5000, which includes prenatal visits (I
only have...

Carrier Question by
LietoFine
Hi everyone,
My husband and I talked the other day and he's currently a little
worried about carrying the baby through a crowded place. He's nervous
about 1) dropping the baby and 2) bumping the baby into things. We
have a convertible carseat, so we can't use it as an infant carrier. I
also...

she's here... by

And I'm just too tired to tell much of a story, except to say that Emily
arrived ON her due date, the 11th, weighing 7lbs 7oz. Delivered with help
from IV pain meds as well as an epidural. She came out with 2 pushes!
I'm exhausted. I have hemmorhoid thrombosis, which may require surgery,...

had the ultrasound--good news and bad news (m/c ment) by
hobbes
So, for various reasons, we decided to have the ultrasound at 20 weeks. And
the results turned out to be rather shocking. It turns out that until 5 or 6
weeks ago, I was carrying twins. But sadly, one of them has died (they're
guessing it would have died between 14 and 15 weeks). From what...

Tragic Birth Story by
[email protected]
Dear all,
The following story is from my friend. It is very tragic for her. I am
wondering how she could have suffered such injuries, could the doctor
have been using forceps incorrectly ?
Here's the story:
Like all mothers, I had looked forward to the birth of my child. I
finally gave birth to...

I can't deliver! by
L.A.
Hi all...
Well, I'm 41w 5d today, and saw both my GP and the OB. Both say the
cervix is still thick and closed. They were going to try an induction
by breaking my water, but can't do that because the cervix is still
closed. I have to go for non-stress tests tomorrow and Sunday, then,
if nothing...

Adoption Update by
Jamie Clark
Well, we've finished all of our legal paperwork, and have a court date to
finalize Addie's adoption! Wednesday, March 23rd, by about 9am, she'll be
all ours, forever! I'm so excited! Addie is doing great, and is such a
little character. She's 5.5 months old, and so strong, and can sit up...

At last!! by
Rivka
Alexandra Calvert was born on Monday, April 11 at 6:21pm, in a 7-hour
unmedicated VAGINAL DELIVERY.
She's 8 pounds 4 ounces, and 20 inches long. I am tired, sore, and very
very happy. She's already nursing like a champ.
More later, when I've had time to breathe.

your opinion please by
Larry McMahan
First, IMHO, the pain thing is a lot less of an issue for the
"uninvolved participants" as you might think. Especially if
you have a nururing DH, doula, or midwife. If you have the kind
of OB who whisks in for 15 seconds every 4 hours, then I would
be less enthusiastic. :-)
Second, unless you...

Part-time daycare for infants by
Benevolent Prof
I'm looking to put "Lentil" into daycare two days per week when my
maternity leave is up. (DH works part-time.) She'll be 3 months old at
the time. I've put my name on the waiting lists of the reputable day
care centers in the area, but I'm starting to get the impression that
day care for infants...
