do gender-neutral kids bicycles exist? by
Frank Nospam
Hello to MKM. Apologies for posting a non-joke today.
My daughter would like her first bicycle for her birthday this spring.
My wife and I think this is a great idea. We'll probably buy bikes
for ourselves as well. So which one should we choose...

10yo birthday party ideas needed by
Robyn Kozierok
We're having Ryan's 10th brithday in 2 weeks. He wants to have a party
at home. That's all we have figured out so far. We desperately need
some ideas. We've already scanned some of the large birthday party idea
websites to no avail. We've done some great Harry Potter and science
parties in the...

Musical 3yo by
Robyn Kozierok
Does anyone have any suggestions for encouraging a musical preschooler?
My 3yo has always been very interested in and responsive to music. He
likes to sing and listen to music (children's, classical, and otherwise).
He has some shakers and things, and a decent Sonar glockenspiel. Are
there easy...

How do I make him think potty training is his idea? by
Robyn Kozierok
I have a 3.5yo son. He is not only not potty trained, he is not
even remotely interested in potty training. Whenever anyone
mentions potty, he insists that, "I just like diapers."
This kid is a complete control freak, and has a history of wittholding
his urine to an extreme that we definitely...

This morning I read an article in the paper regarding a 15 year old boy

keeping track of libary books by
Karen G
I knew this was going to happen. It took three months. We can't find a
library book. I was lucky to ask about it today, they were able to
extend the due date. As a parent, how do I balance the need to "find"
the book and get the kids to understand that we need to keep the books
in their basket...

Cleaning out the Closets by
Scott
Yesterday I finally threw out the remains of my kids'
Halloween candy (Well, I ate the peanut M&Ms, which neither
of them like). They protested very little. I figure
it was past time.
DD is now afraid of being kidnapped. Too many
abduction stories in the paper, I'm afraid. I wonder
how long...

Appropriate age to "go steady"? by
M Kelley
Hi,
My 12 year old wants to "go steady" with a boy from her 7th grade
class. I am interested in hearing about age appropriate activities
other's have allowed their daughters, i.e., school events only, group
activities with a parent/supervisor etc. Is there a road map out
there that allows me to...

financial aid question by
H Schinske
I recently checked out the web page of a private school where I am, and was
surprised to discover that they make a difference in how they calculate family
income for financial aid purposes if there is a stay-at-home parent.
Essentially they use a figure for what the parent could in theory be making...

My 12 year old son has attention deficit. He has never had an IEP and
up until now has been able to be successful in school. When he began
having difficulty at the beginning of middle school last fall, I
visited the assistant principal to talk about an IEP but was
discouraged from doing that...

Disaster plan in place for your family? by
Claire Petersky
It's difficult for me to believe that there has been zero traffic on
misc.kids.moderated regarding Hurricaine Katrina, when practically every
other on-line forum (web or usenet) has had so many messages.
In any case, considering Katrina's aftermath, I was wondering what people's
disaster...

Am I crazy? by

Hi, I'm a new member. Im a single lesbian in Wa. state. Have a great
job and the whole nine. I've wanted a child for as long as I can
remember. I suppose I could find the answers I'm looking for by asking
the sperm bank people, however this is slightly more discreet. I want
to know if there is...

Another milestone by
Iowacookiemom
For some time now, I've known on an intellectual level that Henry is taller
than me, but the other day when he hugged me he rested his chin on the top of
my head.
Sigh.
Having a very tall son makes the phrase "They grow up too fast" take on new
meaning. He's only 12, and already he's nearly...

We are interested in first person experiences.
Thanks in advance.

Another holiday present request: Kid's watch? by

I'd like to get my 7yo a wris****ch for the holidays, but I'm having a
lot of trouble finding a basic watch in a child's size. I've found
children's watches, but they all have cartoon characters or other
kid-like decorations on them, or they're really huge and have a
zillion dingbats and buttons...

utensil reuse for lunchbox? by

I'm at a total loss. I need some way to send a fork and a spoon to
school with my son where the fork/spoon are reusable and come back
home and the *container* is also reuable. I just can't stand sending
utensils out in a little plastic baggie every single day. It drives

screaming throughout the whole process? In standing position, I have
her head facing downward and hands covering face. Are there any better
methods? Thanks in advance!
