weekly newspapers for children by Beliavsky
Do there exist weekly newspapers (in the U.S.) for elementary school age children? ISTR that they existed when I was in school. I'd like to subcribe to one for my son.

school fundraisers by Beliavsky
My son's Catholic school periodically has fundraisers where he can sell $X worth of goods (calendars, cookies etc.) or his parents can just write a check for some slightly lesser amount. I don't mind just paying, since the overall costs are still pretty low. I wonder, though, if kids can pick up...

kid not getting ready for school by Beliavsky
My 4yo likes to go to school, but he often aggravates his mother in the morning by dallying. The cycle of (1) boy eats a bit at breakfast table (2) boy runs to family room to join little brother watching cartoons (3) mother yells at boy to do (1) is repeated many times. I think we should just...

software to monitor child internet use by Beliavsky
What software are people using to monitor and control their children's Internet use? We have a broadband connection to a computer running Windows XP. For our 4yo boy, the current problem is not his looking at "adult" material but his registering at various web sites, giving out personal information...

flapping hands by Beliavsky
My 4yr9mo son often flaps his hands when he is excited. Although flapping hands is a symptom of autism, we don't think he is autistic, since he does not exhibit other symptoms. We would like the reduce the frequency of his hand flapping over time. Any suggestions?

Three Kids? You Showoffs by Beliavsky
I thought this article was amusing. Of course raising children costs money, but I don't think parents should be discouraged from having more than two, unless they are on welfare. One of my wife's sisters even suggested abortion when my wife was pregnant with her 3rd child, just because three...

Veteran's Day by Beliavsky
What do people do with their kids to commemorate Veteran's Day (a U.S. holiday which just passed)? Maybe in 2 years I will start trying to teach my kids about the meanings of such holidays.

talking about the school day by Beliavsky
When I ask my 4yo son what he did in school today, he either shrugs, says "I don't remember", or tells me what he ate for lunch. I don't think he is trying to be standoffish. Asking my 2yo (who stays at home) what he did produces a cheerful "nothing!". I can get some idea what the older son is...
