In Australia, the average is 5 days.

I might be wrong, but it seems to be 3 nights at our local hospital,
provided a blood test on the third morning comes back fine.

It might vary hospital to hospital, but at mine, they told me to
expect to stay in for 5 days.

my apologies for missing this thread. When I finally came back online
after coming home, I marked all my groups read, as I just didn't feel
up to trying to catch up on all the threads.

I just wanted to say Thank You to all of you that expressed such
caring thoughts here.... it still means a lot, even a few weeks later.

FWIW, I had staples the first time around and healed exactly as I should
have. I had dissolving stitches the second time around, and there was a 1-
inch segment of my incision that refused to heal. I had it cauterized at 6
weeks postpartum (which was traumatic for me), but that didn't work. It
didn't stop bleeding until 3 months postpartum. Awful.

If you can avoid a c/s, do. :-)

This is what I'm going through. It's been almost 3 weeks since the
repair surgery, and I have a spot at the top that just won't heal.
The doc doesn't seem overly concerned about it, but for obvious
reasons I'm skittish.
He wants to remove the retention sutures, but I don't know that I'm
ready, yet.
How did you deal with your un-healed area? I've been following
direction and cleaning mine twice daily, but its not getting better.
All I hear is that it's "normal" for scar tissue to take much longer
to heal.

I did all sorts of things. Like you, I cleaned it twice a day. I would
wipe it dry with a tissue, then air-dry for awhile after that. I also let
it air out whenever I could (which wasn't too frequently, with a newborn
and a toddler to care for) -- by which I mean, I'd lay down on a bed
without clothes covering the incision and just let it be open to the air.
As I mentioned, they cauterized it, which was horrible, and it didn't work.
The midwife got me a prescription for Silvadene cream, which is apparently
something they use to help severe burns heal. I applied that to the
unhealed part and put a bandage over it. I used it for a few weeks, but it
didn't seem to be working, so I stopped using it. Then I just started
putting some regular old Neosporin on it and covering it with a non-stick
gauze pad, and that seemed to work better than anything else. But in all
honesty, it's hard to know whether it was the Neosporin or just time that
finally healed it. It felt like I was dealing with that forever. :-\

I was so sorry to hear what happened to you! What a nightmare. I hope
your incision is healed up soon.
