miscarriage & TTC

Hi

I have just had a m/c at 5 1/2 weeks - DH says everything he has read
suggests waiting for 2-3 months before ttc again but I don't ever
recall anything concrete regarding this despite 3 ish years of lurking
here. Is there any indication that we should wait (especially given
the very early timing of the m/c)

Thanks

Clare

This is common advice, but a number of people on this ng have reported
trying right away and succeeding. You decide.

There is no medical reason why you HAVE to wait 2-3 months after a very
early miscarriage. And 5.5 weeks is VERY EARLY. It's literally just a few
weeks of development, and the fetus is smaller than the period at the end of
this sentance. You may have slightly more bleeding than a regular period,
and maybe more cramping, but not necessarily. I had many early miscarriages
at 4, 5 and 6 weeks, and most were no worse than a regular period, in terms
of the bleeding (a little more clotting) and cramps.

One thing you can do is watch your cycle and take note of the next
ovulation. If it's 2 weeks from your miscarriage, it would indicate that
your body is back to normal and you could go ahead and try. Or you could
"sit out" that first ovulation and try the next month. It's your choice.
Many doctors recommend waiting 3 months before ttc again, but a lot of that
is for your emotional health, so you can process and greive, and so that
they can be sure that the new pregnancy isn't any remnent of the old one,
and date it accurately.

So do what feels right to you. I'm sorry for your loss.

Same here, my sympathies to you and your famly.

I have heard of people ttc successfully right away after a m/c, in my
case the doc said to wait 3 cycles and it took 13 months to conceive again.

Good luck!

Thanks to everyone for their sympathy - I guess this is what I am most
dreading as this was my first pregnancy since a previous m/c 10 months
ago. It has been hugely difficult emotionally although not
physically.

Hope to be posting better news soon

I know it's tough. I had a miscarriage before I had my son, and a
miscarriage after. It's not fun at all, but it does help to wait a bit
(my doctor said I should wait three months at least so that the level
of uterin tissue could regenerate. Then we tried really hard, but
couldn't conceive at all. Then my Mom came to visit, and as soon as
she left, we conceived. I guess it was the month-long visit. Sometimes
a little abstinency can go a long way :-)
