I think those that think spanking never works dont think about anything. Yes you can go to far and yes not ever bad thing a child does need a spanking to cure it. But i can say that if my dad had not spanked my when i was caught smoking and drinking id still be doing it today. He told me aout the no no's of smoking and drinking and "TALKED" to me about it. did it work...i think not cause i stil did it. I was spanked just like this recording and I stopped. My best freind kept on drinking and smoking....4 years ago she died drinking and driving. Just think if her parents had spanked her when they should have. They grounded her for a week. did not save her life did it. i think there is a balence one has to make and to say that all spanking is bad is just wrong. a good spanking could have saved my best freind from drinking at a young age. This guys webpage only tells how you can talk with you kids and they will listen and that spanking only makes them into bad people. bull****. It saved my life frankly. so sorry if i dont share in you all spanking is bad thinking. |

well my best freind died becuase her parents used the talking to way and time outs and all that. she turned into a real drinker and killed himself. we were both caught drinking when we where 16 and i got spanked with a paddle and grounded for a month. I NEVER DRANK until after i was 21. My freind was given a good talking to and grouunded for a the same amount of time. He blew it off and it NEVER STOPPED HIM. mabie if he got a good spanking when I did it would have saved his life. I know the one time his parents did spank him when he went swimming in there pool at night when he was 8. they spanked him and he never did that again. So it truly troubles me when people like you say all spanking is bad. well some can, if you go to far, so if you cant control yourself then yes dont use spanking. But for the rest of the parents who know what they are doing should use it for when it truly needed . It should not be used for every little thing but I can say It saved my life. I hated it when my parents gave me the talking to and i blew it off as them not knowing anything. Its pretty hard to blow off a good spanking.... So grow up and have a open mind to what good it can do. Just like EVERYTHING you can abuse it or respect it. |

It's difficult to find the exact number of times the pro spanking compulsives have touted the claim that spanking has to be good because 90% of US families are reported as doing so. Then we get the same people decrying the crime rate for teens being so high (never mind they are wrong of course....alolescent crime rates have been dropping for years...I'd say as more and more schools found it counterproductive to paddle). Invariably if the spanking compulsive that visit's here sticks around they finally cave to the facts. . . . and the facts are these: spanking is not proven to work in the long term and only in extremely limited circumstances in the short term, and it has high risks involved. The number parents that lose their children to the state for "disciplinary spanking" is high enough to show that parents, many, if not most, do NOT understand the limits and do NOT have enough self control, even if there were definable limits to spanking for discipline/hitting for abuse, to keep from crossing the line. It's rather strange when one considers there is nothing that a child cannot learn by means other than punishment. Not just physical punishment but any punishment. It's simply a lousy teacher....or we would have a much lower criminal ricidvicm rate. Simple logic is beyond the spanking compulsives though. They can look right at it and deny it. Spanking is a risk. Teaching can be done without punishment, and in fact is more likely to be effective. Punishment always has unwanted side effects, even if not discovered at the time of the punishment. Talk to folks that are math phobic about their childhood learning experiences around math.
