The statement is (to be polite) total nonsense.

The issue is not whether parents could become bankrupt by paying college
support. The issue is whether state legislatures have created laws granting
the courts the authority to order college age child support.

Only four states have post-secondary education CS laws. They are Colorado,
Indiana, Iowa, and Oregon. Oregon is unique because that state allows the
CS to be paid directly to the post-18 adult child attending school. The
other three states allow the court to decide whether the support is paid to
the college or the child.

The District of Columbia, Indiana, Mississippi, and New York do not
terminate CS until age 21. Those states allow ongoing CS without the
requirement for the child to be attending post-secondary schooling.

The department handles nearly 140,000 child support cases countywide,
of which 31,592 are managed through the agency's Victorville office. Just
over 158,000 children are supported through the department.
Approximately $15.5 million in child support goes unpaid in the county each month.

???? Thru welfare? Thru foster care? What does that mean?
That's 18,000 more kids then they say they have cs cases?

That breaks down to an average of only $25.00 per week per payor.
Too bad the media prefers to spit out huge numbers to induce a
"the sky is falling"
mentality on readers who don't care to actually think about (or do

The government counts CS cases based on how many orders they manage and then
back into how many children the orders represent. This county has 1.12
children per CS order. The national average according to the census bureau
is 1.6 children per parent.

The only way to explain the gross discrepancy from the national average is
to recognize this county has an above average number of mothers who have had
children with multiple fathers and therefore have multiple CS orders to
being the children per order statistic down.

then why the hell is the department taking credit for supporting those

Of course. And I'll bet this isn't the first time you've heard the
government brag about accomplishments that they never really did.

What frosts my butt when these government press releases become the basis
for news stories is the reporters never challenge what the government says
in the press releases. And the other pattern is the government CS agencies
always makes a big deal about how much CS is owed to justify their ongoing
existence and self-described importance.

system there.

I have 1 child support case. I have 2 children.

effort to pay it.
