While it is true that hygienic improvements, like sewers and clean water as
well as good nutrition have been major advances in public health, the
reality of the matter is that vaccines have eliminated or nearly eliminated
small pox, chickpox, rubella, polio, measles, Hib menigitis, hepatitis B and
other diseases in areas, like the US, where people have been properly
vaccinated.

The bottom line is that vaccines save lives.
