I hadn't really thought about it before, but I think I know what you
mean, and I think I know a way to differentiate them. Think of
someone shouting the name across a playground, and the syllables are
really drawn out. That's when you can really hear the difference
between Day-na and Dane-uh. (Or, Daaaay Naaa and Dannnne Uuuh) If you
say it more quickly, it's harder to tell the difference. (I did this
all in my head, of course.)

There is an "e" in my name that is pronounced like in Spanish, in English
its almost a long "a" sound. Most people say it as either a short "e"or "i",
they cant hear the difference.but I can.
