"Unadulterated Me" wrote in message ... Can I have some feedback on these names, any make your stomach turn, any you adore that sort of thing....connotations to them, no need to feed back on every name just the ones you have strong thoughts on. Trying to come up with some sort of short list for contemplation, not having much luck. Adelaide, Arabella, Georgette, Freya, Fleur, Jemima, Lucinda, Lucianna, Matilda, Poppy, Saffron, Tamasin (not Tamsin), Tansy, Willow And would it be too cheesy to give a baby girl born in May 'May' as a second name? Girls names we already have are... Tessa Hannah Paige Breanna Grace Madeline Rose Isabella Amelia Kate Lydia Elisabeth Andrea no middle name I like May as a middle name. Of those names, I really like Matilda May (although I can't think it without singing Waltzing Matilda), Arabella May, and sort of Poppy May. Jemima reminds me of Aunt Jemima from the US syrup commercials. Denise |

I like all those also. Am I just no help or what? Ooops sorry I wasn't very clear, the last 6 names were children I already have as an example of girls names we've used so are out of the pickings and the new name needs to sort of go with. Thanks for your suggestions though (and I won't tell Tessa what you said g) Andrea |

Adelaide, Arabella, Georgette, Freya, Fleur, Lucinda, Lucianna All way too frilly for me. I like Lucinda the best of these, but really prefer just Lucy. Jemima, Matilda Other direction -- rather homely-sounding Poppy, Saffron, Tansy, Willow Pretty, but rather botanical. I sometimes hear Poppy as a nickname for father or grandfather. Tamasin (not Tamsin), I like this, but I like Tamsin better. I think all around Lucinda May probably goes best with your other names (though I should warn you there is a famous character in one of the Chalet School books named Lucinda Gay, who insists on being called Tom -- and yes, she is quite a butch character). It occurs to me that so far you haven't repeated initials with any of your girls' names, and it might be nice to have a unique initial for this one ... but it's not a big deal whatsoever. --Helen |

Arabella, Very pretty name. I like it. Georgette, My mom went by Georgia so Georgette just looks wrong to me :-) Fleur, I've never heard it, don't know how to pronounce it. It looks ugly to me - sorry! Jemima Like everyone else said - Aunt Jemima is a plump lady filled with pancake syrup. Saffron, If this isn't a cooking ingredient it reminds me of one so I probably wouldn't use it. I do really like the sound of it though, I think it is pretty. Willow My dh loves the name Willow. I think it is pretty as well. I tend toward more traditional names. We'll have to have two girls so we can each pick one, that is what we did with the boys, lol. And would it be too cheesy to give a baby girl born in May 'May' as a second name? I don't think so. I love all the names you already have and I think Willow or Arabella would both fit in very nicely :-) -- Nikki |

I like Lucy too, but it's to common as a stand alone name that's why I was trying to lengthen it, and then I could shorten it to Lucy anyway lol I sometimes hear Poppy as a nickname for father or grandfather. True, I forgot about that connotation. Thanks Helen :-) Andrea |

Georgette, My mom went by Georgia so Georgette just looks wrong to me :-) Well I actually prefer Georgianna (from Pride and Prejudice) but thought it was a little too over the top so compromised. Fleur, I've never heard it, don't know how to pronounce it. It looks ugly to me - sorry! You're forgiven lol Fl-err is how you say it, I think it may be French for Flower but don't quote me on that. Jemima Like everyone else said - Aunt Jemima is a plump lady filled with pancake syrup. hmmm gonna have to look that fat syrup filled chick up on the web for a visual I think. Saffron, If this isn't a cooking ingredient it reminds me of one so I probably wouldn't use it. I do really like the sound of it though, I think it is pretty. I think it does come from the Spice. I've always liked it thanks to Ab fab, but it is a little bit too bohemian for me I think. Willow My dh loves the name Willow. I think it is pretty as well. There's also Willa, but I have a list friend with that name and to me it will always be hers. Andrea |

Adelaide, Arabella, Georgette, Freya, Fleur, Jemima, Lucinda, Lucianna,
Matilda, Poppy, Saffron, Tamasin (not Tamsin), Tansy, Willow Georgette and Matilda sound really really old fashioned to me. Poppy sounds like something you call an old man. Tamasin is pretty, although I've never heard it. Fleur definitely doesn't go with May, and folks might have a hard time pronouncing it (do they say it with the French vowel -- not in English -- or not?). Lucinda May, Arabella May, Tamasin May all sound good in combination. I don't think May is a cheesy middle name, even for a May baby. FWIW, Emily |

Ericka Kammerer wrote: Freya doesn't seem to fit with the rest of your names to me. It doesn't? Poop, I liked that one lol It's a nice name--just seems so very Nordic to me ;-) At least I *have* Nordic ancestry (Mom was bucking to name me Sigrid, which sounds hopelessly tall and blonde to me!). Have you considered Rowan? I do like Rowan, and Arwyn, and Moira and all those LOTR variants but Hmm...odd...for some reason I don't associate Rowan as a LoTR name and it seems *very* feminine to me. I think I thought of it because you look a lot like the little girl I know named Rowan (a pretty little thing, she is). Rowan and Rohan are a little too male sounding. Ronan is the male name I tend to think of, though no one but me seems to like it IRL. And Tessa's favourite book is Rowan of Rin by Emily Rodda so it feels a bit weird. I can imagine it would be a bit odd to have a sister show up named after one of your favorite book characters ;-) Hmmm...what about Franchesca/Francesca? (That's actually my sister's name). I guess what's throwing me is that the names you have already are so traditional (though not particularly common) but the names you list that you're considering seem much less traditional. Maybe that's the direction you're trying to head, though--no rule that says all your names have to be consistent! A name I've been a bit intrigued with since I saw it waaaay back in my family tree is Tacy. Best wishes, Ericka |

I was inspired to do the same thing. http://www.toptags.com/aama/bio/women/ngreen.htm This link has pictures but I was disgusted that they included the Howard Stern deal so didn't want to make it the only link! http://www.tvacres.com/admascots_auntjemima.htmbut Mrs. Butterworth is the plump lady ;-) This is a little scary but you'll see a picture. http://www.lunaparc.com/mrsbutr.htm This is ridiculous stuff to be waiting time on.
