Two states involved?
I currently have a child support order for one child in Michigan.
The mother of my other child is getting divorced. We've never used the court system for support. I've paid regularly by check and wrote "Child support for name of child" on each check. She is moving to Ohio and wants to get on welfare but that will mean that she has to file for child support through the courts. I hope this is just a passing thought...but if she really does that, would the new child-support be issued under Ohio laws or Michigan? Will they try to stick me with an arrearage if the amounts I've paid are under their guidelines? I just got out of the $5000 hole they stuck me with on my other child. I'd hate to be shoved back into debt on this one! TIA Jeff |
