Powdered formula
Why exactly are we told to boil the water before we mix it with powdered
formula? Hubby figures it's to kill bacteria--he is still concerned about minerals so right now we run the water through the Brita filter, then boil it. But when I was asking advice about travelling with the kidlets, some responders were saying we could/should travel with bottled water for mixing. My understanding is that bottled water isn't regulated--there is more certainty about your tap water than anything bought from a store. My mom always suggested bottled water when traveling because she was of the opinion that kids can have their bodies thrown out of whack by the mineral content and such of unfamiliar water -- but I have no idea if that's actually true. meh -- Children won't care how much you know until they know how much you care |

Hhmm, don't know if you need to do both. No harm it though. And that you know it's clean. |

Well at six months, you don't need to boil the water anyway, unless you know
you have bacteria in the water. Always run the water on cold for a few minutes to make sure there is no lead deposits, other than that you don't need to do anything special to it anymore. Bottled water is also okay at this point for the boys. ) -- Sue (mom to three girls) I'm Just a Raggedy Ann in a Barbie Doll World... Marie wrote in message ble.rogers.com... Powdered formula
Why exactly are we told to boil the water before we mix it with powdered formula? I know here our water is yukky.. .We dont drink much out of our taps. . Our cold water tap is pretty ok most of the time and sometimes we drink it , but our hot water tap if water is left sitting for 10 or 20 mins it turns white and murky. Hubby figures it's to kill bacteria--he is still concerned about minerals so right now we run the water through the Brita filter, then boil it. But when I was asking advice about travelling with the kidlets, some responders were saying we could/should travel with bottled water for mixing. I know when we visited friends interstate to SD and QL from our house our kids get constapated. (sp?) (which in turn upset tummys usually happen and they go of food also) My understanding is that bottled water isn't regulated--there is more certainty about your tap water than anything bought from a store. Tap water can vary more then bottled water. Tap water can be hard water, soft water, bore water, well water, rain water , and have varied things in it. where as bottle water might vary slightly but will still have a similer content. All the times we went away if any of our kids were under the age of 1 we just automaticly carried our own water or bought bottled whilest out. I guess this happened when we first to South A with a little baby... Almost a hoilday of hell until we realised it was the water..bought bottled water and hoilday was much better.... no more screaming baby with tummy pains ! We were told that boiling was unnecessary as long as the water is of known quality. We have a faucet-mounted filter, which we use for all drinking water for the family, but it's largely to improve the taste. |
