Man arraigned for not paying $46K in child support
Warren L. Leeson, 37, charged with three fifth-degree felonies

A 37-year-old man was arraigned Monday on felony failure to pay child
support charges.

Authorities say he owes more than $46,000 in back child support to his three
children.

Warren L. Leeson, a bricklayer from Londonderry, was released on personal
recognizance on the fifth-degree felony charges, which carry a maximum
prison sentence of a year in prison.

The indictment against Leeson was handed down Friday by a Ross County grand
jury after the Ross County Prosecutor's Office filed the case on behalf of
the Ross County Department of Job and Family Services.

It is one of 10 such cases filed this year. However, Sue Hopkins, a
supervisor in the child support division, said the department is working to
get those case numbers up.

"We wanted to do more for a long time. It sends a stronger message to the
community that we want child support paid," she said.

As of June 2005, 6,481 children in Ross County are waiting on more than $24
million in owed child support and more than $3 million in current child
support.

Statewide, the number jumps to hundreds of millions.

Failure to pay child support for 26 weeks out of a two-year period is among
the basic criteria needed to file felony charges.
