Ah, the day in the life of a foster parent or "As the Foster Parent's
Stomach Turns"

The names have been changed to avoid repercussions since we have
lurkers:

Foster parent gets home at 5:30pm from a day of activities and playing
taxi.
"Call placement as soon as possible".
Foster parent called anyway even though it was after hours.
"We have found a placement that will take all three siblings. It will
happen either tomorrow (Friday) or the first of the week". (kids have
been
sheltered for 3 months and in two different foster homes getting
weekly
contact).
Foster parents asks for name of new placement. "Ask the worker".
Foster parent asks if new placement knows about the baby's medical
needs.
"Ask the worker".
Foster parent calls other foster home.
They have been waiting since 1pm for a phone call from someone. Foster
parent doing inquiring got the call at 2:04pm.
Foster parent asked for the other foster parents to contact worker on
cell
phone while they made some phone calls.
Worker calls.
Foster parent asked same questions. Worker was hoping that foster
parent
would talk to new placement. Of course. Foster parent stated concern
that
therapies are all in place and that they needed to be scheduled in the
new
home. "The foster parent will have the responsibility of doing that,
but
kids will be closer to mom." Foster mom said that mom visited for 3
hours
over the weekend in their home. Worker didn't realize that.

New placement contacts foster mom. Foster parent is brand new. Works.
Foster parent asked if day care was necessary. Working new placement
said
yes. Foster parent inquired if day care would take the baby in their
condition. They didn't know. So, brand new, we are taking 3 kids and
one
is an infant, with health issues, being put into a day care (and not
an
identified day care).
Boy, Dr. Laura would love this.

So, the old foster parent will be ready for Monday.
Whatever happened to two weeks notice? Transitioning? (gee maybe new
placement could have children for a weekend to test if they could
handle
it?) Nope, all done hastily. Gotta be done NOW!
Now, someone had to have come up with the idea. Where/when was the
meeting?
So, all in house? Placement has no idea what the baby's issues are for
if
they did, they would make sure that the child's health was not in
jeopardy.
Is this the worker's responsibility to ensure safety, health, and well
being?
No, we see an opportunity to get all 3 kids closer to whomever. Funny,
how
these children did NOT see a worker weekly like they were suppose to
while
in shelter status. But, we can violate policies whenever convenient.
Who makes sure that whether or not DCF or private agencies follow best
practices?
Having the siblings together is a must, of course, but throwing them
at a
new foster home without some preplanning is a disaster in waiting.

Yep, and they will be dumped on the foster's with a black garbage bag of
junk, no medical records, probably no medical card either and, and, and...

So there is not a family member or relative who can handle these 3 children?

DSHS is under fire in WA state for a pattern of not allowing relatives to
foster.

"So" ? So, what are you ranting about here? Where are the children's
parents? That's the first question. After that, where are the QUALIFIED
family or kinship care interested parties? Yes, Fern, where are they? Are
YOU one of those folks who stepped up to the plate to qualify to care for a
child? Or do you just sit around and rant aimlessly?

Sherman.
