What is up with Michigan?
As often is the case, unintended adverse results occur from well-intended
legislation. Such were State reactions to the 1996 Welfare Reforms including the infamous "Bradley Amendment." With regard to the specific reform objectives: (2) increase the percentage of non-custodial parents identified, and (3) implement more techniques to obtain support collections from non-custodial parents, it would appear State reactions have been collectively successful. However, while several states1 have heeded the available data and research by implementing very effective, just legislative statutes and agency programs, unfortunately many other states including Michigan deliberately continue with unjust, failed, and flawed legislative statutes, agency policies, and practices. |

ANSWER: The only way anything gets changed in "flawed legislative" is by writing and calling your representative and tell them your story. I have written to the Michigan Family Service Committee, which is a committee whom "change, add, or modify" these legislative statutes. I am second wife whose children are being affect by their "flawed" statues. If enough of us, men, second wives, and girlfriends and boyfriends complaint to them and tell this Family Service committee how MIchigans statutes are affecting your other children (step kids...) they will listen. Just write "in the best interest of WHICH child". And in detail describe your situation. All the statutes in MICHIGAN are for the 1st wife and their children or 1st children born. What about the other children. Speak up for those kids, the committee will have to listen. It is a game. Call your representive today or lookup in the web for more info. |
