Default hazards of the laptop

So every few posts I have to lean over the laptop to actually see a key and
whammo, the belly randomly hits a key. I've sent blank posts, had surprise
spellings and spaces, and who knows what else! Sheesh, pretty soon I am
going to have to put the thing on a table. Or better yet, go to the cafe
and hook up there. Yes, I think that's what I will do

I also work with a laptop. I have this cushioned plate I put on my lap where
the computer rests. It's nice: I do my work, feet up in the air, comfortably
settled in my La-Z-Boy. I have not hit any wrong key yet, the keyboard being
too far for that... Well, being close to being too far for my reach: The
more Baby grows, the further I have to reach to type anything!
Another good reason to stop working... I can't imagine myself sitting
anywhere else than in my La-Z-Boy for the next 6-7 weeks!

What I'm using (since I'm supposed to be reclining or lying down anyway) is
a recliner, with an external and keyboard and mouse on a board across the
arms (now padded with pillows to get over the bump), and an external monitor
with the preferences on fonts set really big. Works pretty well, and is more
comfortable than trying to use a laptop lying down. If I ever go on strict
bedrest where I can't get by with a recliner (I am reclining angled to the
left), I'm not sure what I'll work out.

The biggest problem I have is the cats love to stand RIGHT in front of the
monitor, and I'm too far away to easily shoo them off, and if I call them
they try to walk on me, and Mount baby is NOT for climbing!!

Really? I really must be carrying small then. I've been using a laptop since
June and even now at 34 weeks, I have no trouble reaching keys, etc. I use
it right in my lap on my bed too.

What is it with your laptop's keyboard? I'm curious. I use a laptop
and never had this problem. I raised my desk ages ago due to my sore
back, though. ;-)

Would it help if you plugged a different kind of keyboard in? I used to
have an external keyboard plugged in, and *then* I had odd problems
(like having the external keyboard off to the side and me using the main
keyboard and forgetting that the external was plugged in and live. I
had this nasty habit of resting my arm on it and not being able to
figure out for the life of me why my computer would suddenly start doing
seemingly random things). If you and I are opposites in this respect,
maybe it will help you. ;-)

That's funny... I'm not having keyboard problems, but I keep on
misjudging how big my belly is and running into things (the door, my
husband, the fridge, the desk). The other day, I was trying to figure out
WHY the accelerator on the car seemed so much further away than normal,
and I finally realized my belly had gotten too big to fit behind the
steering wheel the way it used to, and I had been scooting the seat back.

Oh, I can reach the keys just fine, it is when I lean over to look at the
key (I usually work on the comp. in dim lighting or lights out) that the
belly bonks a key or two.

I sit down with the thing on my legs (the keyboard is part of the laptop).
Directly in front of me is the screen, which is flipped up. However, the
built in mouse key is the first to get hit with belly, so wherever the
cursor is when I hit a button is where it either all ends or gets shifted.
sigh. Not a real big deal, but a silly pg. thing this go around. Sometimes
I sit cross legged, but that lasts only so long.

LOL! Bellies are hazardous once they're not there, too. When DD was a few
weeks old, I spilt hot coffee on myself because I was so used to balancing
my cup on her little breech head. My little shelf had gone :-(
