Failed Pitocin Induction, Take 2
Last week I posted a message about my friend who had gone in for
induction. She spent the night with the cervical gel, then got pitocin starting the next day. She went back in on this last Saturday for induction attempt number two. Again, gel all night, pitocin starting the next day. I called her at the hospital Sunday early afternoon to see how she was doing, and she was experiencing contractions, but not too hard, easy to talk through. I wished her well when we hung up, thinking I'd see an announcement email sometime today. I got to work this morning and saw an email that it failed again, and they sent her home again. Her water hadn't broken, so she wasn't "on the clock" or rushed in for c-section. She was getting pretty strong contractions, enough to ask for some meds (she got some Nubain) which took the edge off, but she was not dilating. So she's home for a few more days (today is day 10 overdue). Her doc is going to do an ultrasound probably tomorrow to take a peek and so they can discuss options. At this point, my friend is exhausted, and a bit emotionally disappointed, as she's returned home sans baby twice now. She's ready to start begging for a scheduled c-section. Just wanted to put this out there so you would maybe (please?) send some labor and *dilation* vibes her way. Thanks, Robin #1 EDD early December, 2003 Now nicknamed "Thumper" since it's a little kicker! |

Just wanted to put this out there so you would maybe (please?) send some labor and *dilation* vibes her way. I feel sorry for your friend :-( What a bummer for her. I *am* glad though that they haven't wheeled her off for a c-section yet--it seems like induction efforts lead to c-sections all too often. Hopefully the baby just needs like one more day to cook and will be ready to show up on its own any minute! ***labor vibes*** ***labor vibes*** ***labor vibes*** (I also wonder if all of this *pressure* to have the baby, could possibly be putting the brakes on actual labor starting. I don't suppose it would help to tell her to relax and take some quiet time to herself to spend gently talking with the baby & her body about labor? I were in her shoes, I imagine I might want to smack me for saying something like that, but it is just an idea I had :-) -- Em edd 9/23/03 (33 weeks today!) |
