Default Update: bare-bottomed potty training - 1st success!

We finally had success! This evening, after dh cleaned up his poopy
diaper,ds didn't want a new pullup. So, I introduced the waterproof
pad on the couch idea. A while later, I suggested going to the potty.
He didn't want to go (he was watching tv) so I suggested bringing the
potty over and he could watch while sitting on the potty. After about
20 minutes, he announced that he had peed! Yay! He was very excited.
We moved the potty to his room, so )if heremembers) he can try again
in the morning. (I know he can hold it overnight - we just need to
get him to the potty in time)

Now I just need to figure out how to interrupt fun actvities to go
potty...

My nephew used to get so involved in computers as a training toddler that my
sister told him no (more?) computer until he went potty.

Good luck,
Jeanne

You give him a warning, "In five minutes we are going to try to use the
potty." At the end of those five minutes you say, "Let's go now, you can go
right back to playing after you do." He'll get the hang of it pretty quickly
and soon you shouldn't need to remind him. I tried tro pay attention to
"transition times". I'd watch him and when he was just about to switch from
one play activity to another I'd say, "Ok, let's go use the potty before you
start X activity".

Also, I tried to make routine times for potty. Before we leave the house,
when we arrive somewhere, before meals, before naps, etc. Those were
non-negotiable times. This was very effective for us. HTH.
