18 month old Vocabulary
Our pediatrician hoped for 30 words at 18 months, and 2-or-more-word
sentences by age 2. As Helen notes, there's a lot of variation on this; I wouldn't worry at this point, but I would keep an eye on it and bring it up if they don't have a bunch of words by 2. Julie Mom to Erica & Chris, 07/97 "KimandJuan" wrote in message ... Hi... What are you 18-24 month olds saying at this point? It seems like Alexis was saying much more then the babies are at this age. Emma says "wow wow" for a dog, Agua for water and, sheesh for cheese anytime she sees a camera and daddy and mommy. Aislyn says mama and cheese and nothing more. ~Kimberly Mommy to Alexis Iliana 07/17/99 and Emma Elidia & Aislyn Gabriela 10/01/02 come see us... http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/a/aislynemma/ |

18 month old Vocabulary
Hi, my twins were bilingual and we expected that they would be pretty slow
in speaking b/c of this and their being twins. They were speaking in full sentences by 16 months. OTOH, my singleton, Matan was evaluated at 20 months and has now started speech therapy. At 18 months he said "ema" and "abba" (Hebrew for mama and daddy) but that's it, he also didn't point or gesture. I guess there's supposed to be a big explosion of words between 18-24 months, and we didn't see that even beginning at 20 months, so we took him for evaluation. He's "moderately to severely" delayed in both expressive and receptive speech. Anyway, the pediatrician kept suggesting that we wait another couple of months for him, but my gut feeling was just that something was not right so I went ahead and had him checked. So far we've only had 4 sessions but he's starting to point, use some simple signs, say a few words, and this morning the biggie: "NO!" We were so proud. OK, I'm not sure how this little story will help you, I just wanted to share. We're hoping he'll continue to improve. By the way, Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate! Mayim for water, abba for daddy, kitty for cat, parpar for butterfly, auto for car and he calls his sister Guile for Abigail ( aviguile in hebrew), di ( as in Lady Di) for stop or no, up for up.
