Default Info Request Please: Support Hose

I had a routine prenatal yesterday. While there I mentioned to my
doctor about how my calves and feet were really restless at night and
causing me to have trouble falling asleep (takes me about 1-2 hours).
He suggested I try support hose. He said get the cheaper kind first and
see if they work. If they don't, get custom ones.

So I went to the pharmacy and after much discussion with the pharmacist,
I got a pair of Mild Compression Knee Highs. I absolutely hate full
length Panty hose (only wear them when I have to) so that is why I went
with the knee highs.

I was mentioning the knee highs to a friend today and she said it was a
no-no if you are pregnant due to circulation being cut off.

Would not the support Knee Highs be designed to NOT cut off circulation?
I could see it if I was wearing regular knee-high hose.

I wore them for 2 hours last night and they seemed to have helped. I
don't know if it was just a co-incidence but I fell asleep in about 20
minutes last night. I'd hate to have to stop using them. I just spent
20 bucks on this pair (they were the cheapest for what I wanted). I
don't know if I could bear wearing the Full type for 3 months.

If your circulation is cut off, you'll know it. Your legs will go numb,
and tingle painfully after you take off the hose.

That's my thought as well. Maybe she was thinking about clotting?

I'm not real sure she'd be right on that score either. I know people who
have had blood clots in their legs, and they wear very tight
prescription stockings to stop blood from pooling.

This might be related to the same issue in another thread about
calf massages during pregnancy. IME they do little harm, but
some people are fervently against it for different reasons. I
would think if it doesn't cause tingling feeling or such in
your legs, they can do you little harm. And, BTW, the calf
massages may also help with your restless legs, and try to
keep your ankles above your hips whenever you sit.
