birthing parties

my name is magali . I am a french journalist and I am working on a
special documentary about "birth all over the world." The main idea of
this documetary directed by Gilles de Maistre is to understand what is
birth , to grasp the rituals and the know how all over the world.

I heard a lot about the birthing parties in the west coast of the
united states. For the one among you who once decided to be surrounded
by close relatives during the delivery or for the one who plan to
organize in the maternity such a party Could you tell me more about
this way of giving birth?

in which maternity are you going to do it? why? who have you chosen to
be present? do you feel it is going to support you?

Hi Magali,

We did not have a "party" per se, when Monika gave birth, but there
was always some close friends or family present at the birth in
addition to the midwife.

At Clara's birth, Jennifer, Monika's best friend was present.

At Niel's birth, Clara, aged 22 months, and her babysitter Cailin,
aged 12 was present.
