Default Travel destination suggestions with 2 yr old (from north GA)

My wife is an avid traveller, and unfortunatley I am not. She has
not been on a trip in awhile and is really itching to take a trip.

Our son is getting into that age where he is quite a handful to deal
with. He is also very clingy right now, esp to mom because I am
recovering from back surgery and she has been taking care of him.

She has asked me to do some investigation into possible trip ideas,
maybe in the spring. We live in NE Georgia, and I'd like to keep
driving distance under 5 hours.

Our son LOVES cars, planes, trucks, helicopters and trains. I read
something about Savannah and its historical museums but I'm afraid my
wife will think I'm copping out by staying inside GA!

Thanks

Why not head to a beach someplace? I suspect it's the
rare 2 year old who wouldn't have a ball on the seashore.

2-year-olds who detest water and/or the sound of ocean surf.... )

If you stay at Tybee Island you could combine a trip to the beach with
Savannah. Or, another possibility is to go to the N.C. mountains. We
did that for the past 3 years (rented a cabin in Sylva). You could
take your son on one of the Great Smoky Mountain Railway trips - if you
time it right, it can even be the one with Thomas the Tank Engine.

No Rich, I'm with you!

Take him to The Outer Banks.
Lots of sand and water, lots of "kites" and "kite planes"
He would love it !

Well, if you do go to Savannah, I'll let you know that the museums are
all fairly small, like the Maritime Museum & the Roundhouse. We went
there last summer with our then-2-yr old who also loves all sorts of
Things That Go, and were not that impressed. There may be some other
cool things we missed, but if that's what you are looking for, you may
want to go somewhere else.

Of course, it was also July and we are from the north, so it was a bit
hot for us!

Irene
