Default crazy Texas AG...will now TEACH kids about CS...go figure...

So, we hear it every day...NCP should NEVER discuss those financial
issues with your child...that puts them in the middle and it's just
not fair...even if it means that your child learns the TRUTH about it
vs. what the CP is telling them...well, so, guess what? Here's
another way to ensure that kids turn against their non-custodial
parents, as of course, I'm sure it's all great curriculum based on the
AGs view and the CPs view of child support...

Parenting and Paternity Awareness (p.a.p.a.)
p.a.p.a. is an innovative educational curriculum designed for
secondary school students and young adults that deals with "rights,
responsibilities, and realities of parenting." Key themes in the
curriculum focus on the importance of father involvement, the value of
paternity establishment, the legal realities of child support, the
financial and emotional challenges of single parenting, the benefits
of both parents being involved in a child's life, healthy relationship
skills, and relationship violence prevention.

The Office of the Attorney General is offering the 2008 edition of the
14-session curriculum and training at no charge to teachers, school
counselors, school nurses, teen parent program staff, and parent
educators in community-based programs. The p.a.p.a. curriculum is a
method by which school districts can comply with state law passed in
the 80th Legislature requiring high school health to include a
parenting and paternity awareness curriculum.

The OAG is coordinating with TEA and Regional Education Service
Centers to train teachers, nurses and counselors. Community-based
organizations and larger school districts who wish to schedule
training directly with the OAG can complete this form and e-mail it to
OAG employee Kate Wiseheart.

A quick look on this Texas web site for Parenting and Paternity
Awareness reveals nothing about such factors as (1) the proportion of single
parent families that are established as a result of unilateral action by the
mother (either through divorce or through her ability to decide whether a
child is born); or (2) the continuing glass ceiling on paternal custody.

If I am correct about this, then this program -- like all programs that
are supposed to enhance participation by fathers -- are primarily about
getting the fathers to do things that are helpful to mothers. They do
nothing to warn young men about the way in which family law is grotesquely
biased against them. I'm afraid that angle can come only from local
fathers' groups. However, so far as I know none of these groups give any
attention to educating young men about the current situation.
