groups for indepth discussion
I'm looking for email groups or forums where there is more indepth
discussion about maternity issues in general, I'm aware of some for the UK, but I really want to try and get a picture of things in the US. Birth is the same, but the system isn't, I get the basics of how things work from here, but I know how much I've learnt and found out more about from additional things I've been involved in on the UK scene, but life is here in the US for the foreseeable future and I want to know more! I think what interests me most is how non self motivated women are to get safe, positive births, I know educated women don't always get that, but they have a lot bigger chance if they sign up for classes, do some reading etc. but what about women who don't even think, just sign up with an OB? I guess a group that has a reasonable number of care providers in it would be the kind of thing I'm looking for. Anne |

I bet your local La Leche League would be a good resource for info on such
a thing... thanks, I'll ask next meeting, or email the leader, so far, I've seen minimal interest in changes in birth, there isn't a disinterest in birth, but whilst most are keen for breastfeeding to be seen as the norm, acceptance to be improved, early help in the hospital to be improved etc. it's acknowledged that a c-section makes it harder to breastfeed, but no corresponding desire to reduce the c-section rate, but I will ask as they may be aware of groups. On a more general level, belonging to the local group is definitely educating me about what things are like in this particular local area. Anne |
