No. What calmed me down was that they said I was attacking you,
which I did not mean to do. It made me more aware of my words.
You, however, are purposely attacking me.

It looks to me more like she's defending herself, and getting a bit
frustrated along the way. Certainly at times she's been retaliating
as well, but she had been baited. Sorry, but that's how I see it.

That's how I see it, too.

Her retaliation is exacerbating, don't you think?

Do you ever take responsibilty for what you have done?

According to Nimue, her kids are as poor as they can get. When she
talks to them, they change their clothes to more appropriate
attire. She has not stated that it has ever been a problem when
she talks to her students. She is upset with the dress code and
sending kids home to change.

She's not saying it's the same person. She's only giving reasons
for some kids not following the dress code. You're twisting it
again.

Toypup will continue to do so.

She doesn't like them being humiliated (what's wrong with that?) so
she'll talk to them and try to find a solution, obviously if the
kids able to they will. Her point here was that there was no need
to embarrass the kids.

Thank you for understanding that. I was pretty sensitive in high
school and
could be easily embarrassed. I try to spare my kids that.

Her OTHER point was there are many kids that just can't afford it,
and she doesn't think it's that big a deal to not follow the dress
code to the letter. Her opinion - she's allowed to have one.

Why does she have to justify each one of her opinions?? And then
have a perfect answer to everything?

Oh, I just threaten toypup. He or she has calmed down and behaved
better, in large part, I think, due to your brave championing of me
and my posts. Thanks!

You're welcome. I'm a very sensitive person myself. and if someone
treated me like that I would be horrified. I don't always agree with
everything you've said, but you make good points, and there's just no
reason for anybody to treat someone else like that.

Thanks. There should be more people like you around. The world would be a
better place.

Jen

Damn, you're thick.
Okay, I'll repeat myself: "You know, this isn't the first time you've
accused someone of changing their story. Where you see
story-changing, I see specific points being addressed".

If you haven't gotten it by now Barbara, I give up.

Oh, I've gotten it Nan. I've gotten it. In fact, I've summarized
everything YOU said. But if you want to pretend that you didn't really
say all of those things, or that I'm *thick*, go right ahead. And I'll
keep right on responding until you stop making nasty statements about
me. Because I don't like being insulted (*thick,* lacking
comprehension), cursed at (*for ****s' sake*), yelled at (repeated use
of all caps), lied about (*habitual[y]" making false accusations) ,
called names (*thick*), or all of the other things you've been doing,
and I'm going to defend myself.

Barbara, you have maintained your composure quite well, considering the
attacks you have endured on this thread. I can understand Nan's point about
specific points being addressed, but I also see story changing.

Well, you've lied about me, or at least exaggerated with the intent to
mislead, so I can't say I trust anything you say. I know I can be nasty.
I
can admit it, too, unlike you. You can't even be honest about yourself
and
how you have behaved towards me in this thread.

Where have I lied about you?

You've been baiting her! What do you expect her to do?!

Nan

Thanks. I am happy to know there are people like you and Jen in the world!

Fine. But in that case it's problem that has no solution. These kids
are doomed. Their parents can't afford school supplies and don't have
the ability to plan ahead to save for them. The entire family is too
proud to ask for help, so the school district or local charities cannot
provide the supplies. So the kid doesn't have supplies and fails, NOT
because he's marked tardy when he goes to his locker, but because he is
not able to complete the assignments without writing implements and
paper.

You sure love to stretch, don't you?

She's not strecthing. She is repeating what you said.

LOL, sure she is. I proclaimed the kids to be doomed. Learn to read.

Why do I have to have the answers? I'm merely pointing out that there
are people out there so poor that you can't even imagine it. You and
a few others in this thread are asserting that supplies are cheap and
ANYONE can buy them if they just do x, y, or z. As I've said already
several times, it's not as cut and dried as you'd like to believe.

You don't need all the answers. If you don't have the answers, then the
solutions that are presented are the only ones that we know of that can be
practically applied. You can't argue that we can't use those solutions
without presenting something of your own, because what can we do? We are
not saying absolutely everyone can buy the supplies, just that most poor
people, even on the bottom rungs, can come up with the basics; and those who
can't can get some help from school or other resource.

Nobody is asking you to use solutions. Only that you understand your
"solutions" won't fit everyone. You can't imagine any other concept
than what you know. The world is much bigger than your tiny corner in
which your perceptions fit only you and those you know.

That's not quite the way I see it. The way I see it, both toypup and
nimue have felt attacked, and both have felt the need to defend
themselves. I don't honestly think that third parties jumping in on
both sides is helping the matter. I really think they should both
just apologize and move on.

I see in your other post you mention General Guidelines. That is
closer to what I'm thinking of. However, you mentioned in a previous
post that you'd never seen or heard of your school's dress code. To
me, that is a general guideline you should know.

Nan

Today was the first day of school for teachers. We did the same
assembly we always do, and I paid attention to see if anyone mentioned
the dress code. We got heaps of information on the correct way to take
attendance, what to do if we are absent or late, how to report
suspected abuse, etc. The meeting lasted over an hour and the dress
code was never mentioned. During the department meeting, we received
information on the book list and approved NYSTL books, on using media
in the classroom, on sub lesson plans, on parent contact logs, on
zillions of things, but the dress code was never mentioned. Since
these opening day meetings are the same every year, and we get the same
information packets, I have to conclude that I have never been given
information about the dress code. It certainly is not the teacher's
job to enforce it -- that is the dean's job. Furthermore, we got so
much information on so many things that I can understand why I wouldn't
notice the lack of any information about the dress code. It may be a
general guideline in certain places, but it's not where I work. There
is no focus on it. In these NCLB days, there are more important things
to worry about. This, of course, helps create a situation where a
poorly defined and ill-understood dress code is unfairly and
erratically enforced. Me, I just want my kids IN CLASS. I think you
know that. :-)
