How to stop milk production before birth?
Hi,
Due to scarring following cosmetic surgery, I was unable to express milk after my first pregnancy and therefore never able to breastfeed. I am pregnant again and would like to know what I need to do, and when, to halt milk production before it puts me on the path to mastitis. Thanks! |

I'm not sure what you can do to stop milk production before birth. I don't know if it's possible. After birth, the advice is to bind your breasts tightly, use cold compresses of cabbage leaves, keep your breasts out of hot water (like in a bath or shower), and not express at all (which shouldn't be a problem for you, based on your history). You will likely still get engorged, but this should help the milk production decrease and eventually go away. -- Jamie Earth Angels: Taylor Marlys, 1/3/03 Addison Grace, 9/30/04 Check out the family! -- www.MyFamily.com, User ID: Clarkguest1, Password: Guest Become a member for free - go to Add Member to set up your own User ID and Password |

There will be pain.

When I lost Nathan 8 years ago, I asked about it as well, as was told that they stopped using it as it caused cancer. They figured it was better to deal with discomfort and pain for a week or two, than risk cancer for something that was not life threatening. I would assume that it's still the same, unless they've found another drug with the side affect of affecting lactation.

I would assume that it's still the same, unless they've found another drug with the side affect of affecting lactation. It's got majorly bad side effects. There's a brain condition (which can happen in males as well as females) which causes milk to be permanently produced. Most people offered the drug to stop the milk production will refuse it (certainly after trying it) because it causes so many problems. Debbie |
