toddler wants to nurse again
I'm a little surprised that it took DD (26 months) so long, but she is
interested in nursing again. She weaned a year ago when I got pregnant with DS, and DS is now three months old. She did all the typical regression stuff when he was born, but overall has adjusted pretty well, and seems to enjoy being a big sister. Out of the blue yesterday she crawled into my lap and asked to nurse. (for the first time in over a year) So I lifted up my shirt and let her. She clearly couldn't remember how, but enjoyed just kissing and licking etc.... But today she has been clamoring to nurse all day and seems now to have figured out how to do it again. IShe even sang {"Happy birthday Mommy's nipple") to it, while holding my breast with "two hands, Mommy") and let her beloved Bunny rabbit have a turn too. I''ve tried to just accommodate her and not make a big deal out of it, but how long can I expect her to be interested? I don't really want to tandem long term, but don't want her to feel like she's missing out on something either. Thanks JJ |

toddler wants to nurse again
sounds just like my toddler, I was surprised he didn't ask sooner, but it
was when the new arrival was 2-3 months old, I also let him try, but again it was really a lick and a kiss. Cheers Anne |

I don't know if this will help you, but I probably would have allowed her to try and nurse but gently discouraged it at the same time. The first time when she couldn't remember how, I would have been laughing at how silly it is for a big girl to nurse, even though I wouldn't have said "no." She sounds very sweet, though. Of course, it's up to you whether you want to tandem or not. It sounds like you're undecided. -Patty, mom of 1+2 |
