So, anyone else starting kindergarten this fall?? Keeping them in the same
class, or separating? Public or private school? When do you start and what is the age cutoff date. We start Sept. 7 and I'm hoping to keep them together. At least in the beginning. For stability. This is the boys' 4th move, and going to an all day, every day, school with large classes, in yet another new town are big changes. Plus they will be a young 5. I already asked about this at the school when I picked up the registration packet, and the lady said for me to include a letter with my reasons to keep them together and they would consider it. So I conclude that they automatically separate twins. Our age cutoff date is Sept. 30. If we had stayed in Kansas, they wouldn't have made the cutoff, which is end of August. But I think my boys are ready. I can tell they are on the cusp of reading, and they are getting really good at addition. This is a big change from last year, when I was much more apprehensive about their maturity. Would love to hear from ya! Stephanie Jake and Ryan 9/3/99 |

My singleton starts junior kindergarten in the fall. I cannot offer any
insight as to keeping them together obviously, but I can discuss your other issues. In Ontario, the age cutoff is December 31st, and since Colton was born late November, he will be among the youngest in his class. He is 3 1/2 starting school, and it just seems so young. However, he is excited about it, and he is ready. His program is half day every day, in a public school that includes JK all the way to grade 8, about 400 kids in total. I hope he is not too overwhelmed. -- Terri & Rob Colton (11-29-00) Aimee and Kylie (12-22-03) Visit us at: http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/a..._kylie_colton/ |

my experiences: where we sent our kids (I'm a grandmother), the boys were
encouraged to start later, due to social maturity (and I think it paid off). My kids and the older grandkids all went to the same private school in suburban Philadelphia. As for the younger set of twins (3+ ID boys), they are in Montessori school, will be going full-day, and the teachers suggested separating them this Fall, which at first made my heart stop, but it makes sense in terms of the fact that they are very independent, outgoing and the two of them double-team everyone all over the place and if one is getting into mischief, the other senses it (I've seen that) from across the room, and the two of them can really 'go off' together. If separation doesn't work out, they can be put back together. It seems to make some sense in their case -- I was always for keeping twins together, but they might be able to 'grow' more as individuals if they are not in the same classroom. We shall see... I definitely want my two split up when they hit 1st grade - at least that's what I say now. And I don't object to them being split up in a few months even, if it looks needed. But for the start, I want them together. I think I'm just a softy. :-) I'll have to talk to you later to see how it's going for your two guys. I'm sure they'll love school!! They have been in Montessori school half day (5 days a week) since last September. It's because they HAVE been together for a full school year that the teachers thought it would benefit them to be separated. Their program will be two separate classrooms in the morning, but together in the afternoons (mornings are more concentrated on 'work'). They truly love school, and I think the Montessori program and philosophy is wonderful for helping children to realize their potential -- it's so very 'into' developmental levels and letting the child set his/her own pace (with encouragement).
