The Coalition of Fathers and Families NY, Inc. (FaFNY) is an all volunteer member supported 501c3 not for profit corporation that is working to keep fathers and families together through education, advocacy and lobbying for social and political change. We are affiliated nationally with The American Coalition for Fathers and Children (ACFC). You can review our organization information on this site (including our latest IRS filing), FaFNY publicly reported information on the web site guidestar.com (type in FaFNY in the quick search button), check our financial report and IRS Form 990 here or obtain more information at the NYS Attorney Generals Charities Registration Bureau. In addition to the resources we provide on this web site we are providing policy information to those in New York State Government who set policies and we meet with them on a regular basis on these issues. We provide advocacy for non custodial parents and speak to their issues with NYS and local governments. We provide self help information for persons and families in need. We produce and provide the CAPITAL NEWS, the quarterly newsletter of FaFNY. We conduct research on the issues faced by fathers and families and we produce opinion pieces and present testimony on behalf of fathers and families. We provide to the public and policy makers alike, free of charge, the Family Help Packet for those entering into family dissolution and the family court system and the "Are We Ignoring the Elephant in the Room" collection of policy reports for family advocates and policy makers alike. We speak for the 2.5 Million "non-custodial" parents in New York State. The Problems There are currently 2.5 Million "non-custodial" parents who are denied access to their children in New York State. The Children's Rights Council estimates that there are 518,000 children in New York that have been denied access to a parent. In New York 93% of custody cases results in sole mother custody but in 100% of cases a child loses access to a parent and that parents extended family such as grand parents, aunts and uncles and cousins. The National Fatherhood Initiative estimates that in the US there are 24.7 Million children (a whopping 36.3%!) living absent their biological father. There is a 50% Divorce rate and a one-third out of wedlock birth rate putting America's families, and the children they support, in crisis. Biases against fathers, men and boys can be seen in the popular media, government and society. Polices such as no fault divorce and equitable distribution, child custody and child support awards, domestic violence, child abuse, paternity and false paternity, health research and care, employment and education, and a man's right to choose fail to include fathers/men and are undermining strong families and communities. Gender biases interfere with men's participation in the family and women's participation in the workforce. The Solutions Social and political change. Kids Need BOTH parents. Kids Need Dads. Kids Need Moms. Kids Need Fathers and Families. FaFNY supports education, policies and legislation that would help both parents and both extended families participate in a child's upbringing free from government intervention. We need policies that build strong families, families that include FATHERS. We need to work to end biases against both women and men that fail to provide for equal rights and responsibilities and especially equal opportunity for all. We offer help and assistance to family members so that they may participating in building strong families in New York and the Nation for the benefit of our children and society. What can I do to help children, Fathers and Families? Right now in New York there is no organization that provides case management or crisis intervention on behalf of fathers. New York State Government provides no services to fathers in crisis and has no agency that represents fathers. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO FILL THE VOID OF GOVERNMENT INACTION. We need people to speak out on these issues and invite everyone visiting this web site to, first register to vote, then review the legislative affairs information and indicate your support. Join us at Legislative Education and Awareness Day on Tuesday May ??, 2005 in Albany, NY to speak on behalf of children, fathers and families. We need people to join as a member of FaFNY. Your membership provides much needed financial support and puts your name with others who want to see families together for the benefit of children. We need your tax deductible donations. With no government assistance our funds are stretched thin. Please support our cause with your hard earned dollars. We need advocates. We need active members to step up as their resources allow and volunteer their time. Volunteers can join in as a member, as a committee person working in a specific area such as Legislative Education and Awareness Day as a County Coordinator working in their home county or as a board member or officer of the association. How can I get "HELP!"? If you are a family facing dissolution or a child/parent/grand parent facing the separation of your family you can find assistance at our self help resource pages found on this web site.
