I heard a trailer for this and was intrigued, it's a true story called
"Waiting for Daisy", it must be abridged, I don't know how it ends, so
far the eventual mother had been through cancer, a partial molar
pregnancy, infertility, miscarriage. I was cautious about posting it as
I don't want anyone to take it as minimising anything they are going
through, but I've found it interesting, today's episode had a discussion
about the japanese word for a miscarried foetus, motivated by her having
a miscarriage in Japan, but interesting. The author is a journalist,
which probably explains why it's so captivating. I've managed to resist
so far googling to see if I can find the outcome, the title suggests
they end up with a girl called Daisy, but whether she's adopted or not,
I don't know!

The programs are 15 minutes long and available for 7 days after
broadcast, so the Monday one will only be available until Sunday night.

Cheers

I don't remember there being anything other than a short lead in, just
checked, it's about 1min30 into the recording, their are the closing
credits for the previous program, then 2 trailers, one about buddist
retreats and one about the economy. The author is american, Peggy
Orenstein and it's read by an American actress.

No, I meant, if each program is 15 minutes, and she's reading the whole book
in 15 minute installments, was Monday's episode #1, or #5 our of however
many?

I don't know, but if it was the BBc then it's probably "book of the week"
which is one a day Monday to Friday usually. So Monday's would be the first.

Thanks for posting this. I listened to them all this morning.

It was interesting to me that the author considered that even taking
her basal body temperatures had been part of her sin. I take them all
the time, whether or not we are trying to have a baby, so I just
think
of it as a normal part of keeping track of my body.

I know someone locally who had a molar pregnancy. She gave birth to
her next baby just about a year after the molar pregnancy, so she
didn't do the same waiting period as the author of this book.

Thanks for posting this Anne. I finally got around to listening to the
series, and really liked it. I've thought periodically of writing my story,
but then I read/hear books like this and think -- she just said what I would
say! But I really enjoyed it, even as abridged as it was.

I'm tempted to buy the book, I found
http://www.peggyorenstein.com/articl...7_ticking.html on her website,
it's an adaptation she did herself for Oprah magazine, it suggests that
although heavily abridged, the radio version didn't lose her style - and
it's that that is the interest, sure, she had a hard time, but things
could have happened completely differently, she'd personally have had a
different journey and it would still have been interesting.

You should have a go at writing yours Jamie, I know the kind of stuff
one posts on here isn't usually much of an indicator as how one might
write a book, but there has been paragraphs here and there that you've
written that have shown real flare, my memories are vague now, but I
remember one about your feelings anxiously waiting during your donor IVF
cycle, it's the way those feelings and emotions get described that make
a book, not the actual happenings.

I know I write in far too factual a way to make it readable to many
people, I do like to try and take multiple references and a subject that
may be confusing and try and help people understand it, but a book full
of that would boring. For several months now I've been trying to think
how to put into words a very short article in favour of midwifery, kind
of did you know it exists, did you know it's relevant to you etc. but so
far I'm struggling - I really should at least put pen to paper so I can
refine it, I know if I get it done it will get printed in a newsletter
and I do want those 40 women to have something to think about.

Cheers
Anne
