Newbie question: Any good resources on pregnancy?
Hi everyone
My wife has been pregnant with our baby son for about four months now. I'm interested in reading up about some good pregnancy advice or ways in which I can help mother or baby cope better. Can anyone recommend some good books or websites about the topic? Thanks in advance. Best Regards, Gary Hendricks http://www.desktop-video-guide.com |

Newbie question: Any good resources on pregnancy?

Thanks in advance. Congratulations on expecting! Being a bit of an, um, thorough person, I ran out and read uncountable books and sites on various aspects of pregnancy. My 2 favorites by far a 1. The Birth Partner (2nd Edition) by Penny Simkin 2. The Unofficial Guide to Having a Baby by Ann Douglas and John Sussman. The first book is directed specifically toward the father/birth partner, so might be an especially good read for you (my husband is reading it with my notes in the margins right now ;-)). I found it was also extremely useful for me. I personally did not like either the Girlfriend's Guide or What to Expect When You're Expecting, because both were a bit too far down their respective ends of the spectrum for me (the former having, IMO, a too-casual "just relax and get the epidural" approach and the latter a too-harsh "put one donut in your mouth and you're an unfit mother" approach). Of course, this is all very subjective and what I found useful you and your wife may find so much drivel. But hopefully you'll get a good wide range of recommendations here and you can check out the books and see which ones appeal. I've found customer reviews on Amazon.com a useful resource in selecting books as well, as many people will be very specific in their comments and you can get a good idea of what to expect from the book.
